i'm not an expert on these , so you may wait until an "expert" chimes in...... but I know alot depends if they come with ther box and papers etc. I have been looking at these on various auction sites and some vary from $300 to NIB $800

Depending on where you are, you'll see prices vary. I paid 500 for a nickel in pristine condition (doesn't even look fired) with no box or papers and no other extras in Massachusetts.

I traded a Sig P250 .40 that I had $400 in for a Nickel 39-2 in pristine cond. without papers or box, but with tools that came with it, here in TX. Don't shoot it! If you do you'll never want to sell it! It has been one of the best shooting single-stack 9s I've ever shot! I love mine. ENJOY!!

They were actually on it when I bought it on Gun Broker. No, too pretty to carry, I have a light weight (scandium & titanium) 7-shot .357 revolver for that.

Well went to the range today an had multiple feeding problems. I don't think It shot two bullets in a row without one bullet getting stuck cause it did not eject the round. Could it be the magazine?. I was using the factory 8 round original and shooting magtech 115 grain fmc(says on box) is the fmj? anyway , I shot 13 shots before i decided enough was enough. I did order the 9 rounders by S&W that midway sells. Any help is appreciated

You may have an ejector problem... but before you jump off that bridge try some different ammo and different magazines. Also in case you have not already, make sure you have at least field stripped and cleaned it well, oil and greased the rails. After you have done those 3 things if it is still hanging up.. I would change the 2 main springs before I went into it any farther. All that will cost nothing to a few dollars and you can do yourself. If you still have issue I would see a gun smith, Call S&W for repair help or talk to more gun mechanics savy people on here. (not me) I hope that helps.

I too JUST obtained a nickel 39-2 from a bar buddy. It came with 3 original mags. My question is mine has BLUED takedown lever --- safety/decocker---and extractor. I notice the 39-2s pictured from others posters have these parts NICKELED........ comments ? Serial # A309XXX

I agree that a new set of springs and a thorough field strip & cleaning should be your first moves.

I saw them both ways when I was looking for my nickel gun originally. I think some were put together with black levers and some with nickel. Matter of preference.

I might be wrong but a good friend of mine who did own a M59 told me about the same problems. And if he tried using HP it would always "jam". FMJ would work sometimes. Apparently this was a well known problem by M59 owners and at some point S&W did send out some replacement parts (I'm sure someone in here will know the details. There is at least one tread/post about this on this forum). So if the problem was there with the early M59 I would think the problem also would be there with the early M39 (in principle the M39 is made from a M59....right?). My M39 SS is one of the VERY late models and therefor "No Problems".

I will try replacing all the springs , including the magazine. Already cleaned the hec out of it, and if that doesn't work, i will send it to S&W

I had a M39 and also had some feeding problems. I would suggest that you take it to a local gunsmith and have him buff and polish the feeding ramp and either he or you give the gun's innards a thorough cleaning.

I was looking for this:
"About 1978 or '79, S&W came out with some upgrades to the guns, which entailed replacing the extractor & spring, guiderod, barrel bushing and magazine followers."
From this post:
S&W Model 59
I have read similar remarks in other post on this forum. If the S&W M59 was in need of S&W factory replacing parts then one should think the older M39 might have had same need.
Also google has revealed that many people have had feeding problems with the M39. Main problem being AMMO but also aftermarket magazine. Hope it helps?

Bxchef... thanks for that update, it's both good an bad news. Good for you that it was the ammo, bad for me that it was the ammo. I recently bought 1,000 RDS of the same stuff at a good price to run through my M39-2, 459 & 559. I've got my fingers crossed that is was just the particular lot your ammo came from.
I think the nickel 39-2's are among, if not the most classy pistols to be made... great looking grips you got there.

I've run a LOT of Magtech through my 39s and 5906 without issues, hopefully it was an isolated mis-match of ammo and gun.

I have two 39-2s that are nickeled. The following parts are blued on both guns: Rear sight, hammer. safety, slide lock, sideplate, trigger, extractor, recoil spring plug and barrel (both inside and outside!). Magazines are blued, too. The nickeled 39-2s that I've seen follow this pattern. I've heard of all nickeled pistols but have yet to see one.

Well I wouldn't be surprised at all. The 39 is about the best looking SA S&W ever made. If, that counts for anything. I picked up a 639 last year and it does fine. Need to up my magazine count though. I have some Ivory, but may put Rosewood stocks on mine. On the ammo, I load my own so no problems so far and I don't expect any.
