Had a 4046 once, wish I'd kept it!
But I can say as soon as you get it, clean it, oil it, put a new recoil spring in it, and shoot the snot out of it. It will take it!
I currently have a 5946 and it lives on a diet of Speer 124gr.+P Gold Dot, and likes it.
I can say that my 4046 preferred 180gr. bullets though.

There is a batch of Tulsa, Oklahoma PD 4046 pistols that hit the market in the last two months. I bought two of them. They come with Novak night sights, two magazines, and enough wear to show they were carried often and fired little. The exterior surfaces show signs of carry while the internal surfaces look pristine.

Of my two, one had very little wear, and the other had noticeable finish wear. The latter had an earlier serial number yet had the MIM trigger and blued hammer whereas the higher serial number pistol had the flash chromed internals. The sights on both guns still glow, although weakly. That is no surprise as the date on one of the guns sights is "92", meaning the sights are over twenty years old. The white rings around the tritium vials on the newer gun were full of gunk, so I had to spend some time cleaning the sights.

A bit of follow up on the serial number discussion: The gun with the flash-chromed internals has a TZN serial number prefix. The gun with the MIM internals has a TDM serial number prefix. The TZN gun has a rear sight that is clearly marked with the Trijicon information while the TDM gun has no markings on the sights, front or rear. The TDM frame is marked with the newer laser markings while the slide has the older rollmarks. The TZN model and serial number are embossed/rollmarked into the frame. The TDM gun also has the plastic mainspring cup.

My suggestion upon receipt is to disassemble, clean (one of mine was full of leather shavings and assorted other gunk), lube the sliding surfaces with grease and the pivoting surfaces with oil, reassemble, and shoot.

I agree. Wood is good. This is Hogue Coco Bolo on the TDM-prefix 4046.
