4516-1 magazines?
Hello all. I am new to this forum and I hope someone can help me with a magazine question. Back in the 90's I bought a new 4516 from the LGS. mainly because I wanted a 45 ACP. and this was the only ambidextrous one he had. It has been a great shooter and I would like to obtain a few extra magazines. I am just finding out that the -1 mags are very hard to find. Can anyone tell me the difference between the-1 and non dash mags. which are readily available? Anyone have experience with using a non- in a -1 pistol?

I'm almost positive that the 4516 magazine will work. Brownell's shows to have them, & the part number is 237420000. Hopefully someone that knows for sure will check in soon.

There's a thread in this forum on the various versions of the 4516 and why they were made. I think that the 4516-1 magazines were designed as part of the issues with feeding problems on the original 4516. I have several magazines marked for use only with the 4516-1 and asked if they were OK to use in my 457. The answer was yes as it's the 4516-1 that needs the special mags, but they will function fine in any of the third generation pistols. You just shouldn't use regular magazines in a 4516-1.
Do you have a -1 or another version?

Welcome aboard,
I'm assuming yours is a dash-1 gun. In my 4516-1 I run whatever mags I have laying around. I've used 7 & 8 round mags of both of regular production and also some performance center mags I got. I have yet to have any mag related feed problems of any kind. Any of the current production 7 rounders will run fine. the ones to be avoided are the early 4516 no-dash orange follower mags.
Your original yellow follower mags were marked "for use in 4516-1 only" back then due to their NOT being backward compatible with the no-dash guns. But they do work in all the later production 7 shot capacity guns
Cheers
Bill

I have both yellow follower -1 and black follower 7 round magazines I run in my 4513 TSW, no issues what so ever. I even run my 8 round black follower mags from my 4506-1 in my 4513 TSW, no issues.
