Love model 52. I purchased mine in 1972, I shot NRA target. One of the best semi-auto I have ever owned. I shot star reloads but they had to be nickel cases or the round would not feed. I also had a counter-balance. Great firearm

Sure the 52 is nice and has some strong supporters but the 5 round mag gets to be a drag. I have one 52 and five 952s including one long slide. I think that says it all for me anyway.

Man, I love it when guys (and gals) keep the original box looking new all those years. It just adds the finishing touch to a really fine gun. Nice one!

The 952 is the gun that started me on the path to collecting hand guns, and the one that introduced me to the Performance Center. It was love at first sight, and I still consider it the most beautiful semi-auto ever made. If you don't agree, maybe these photos can change your mind.

First up, the 5" models...

952 No Dash, blue

952-1, blue, early version, with 'Billboard' Lettering

952-1, blue, later version

952-2, two-tone, matte stainless with polished flats

952-2, two-tone, black with polished flats

And now the 6" Longslides...

952-2, two-tone, matte stainless with polished flats

952-2, all matte stainless finish

952-2, two-tone, black with polished flats. The most visually stunning gun I have ever seen.

952-2, Wischo 'Masterpiece' Export Model, two-tone, matte stainless with polished flats

The five round capacity magazine is plenty for what the pistol was intended for: Bullseye competition.

I'm trying, but my wife is pretty sure I'll run out of money before I decide I have enough. Either that, or she'll have me certified and lock me away.

Okay, I'll play. bought this one in the mid eighties, one of the last ones to roll out of Springfield before they shut the model down. The slide has gone plum over the years and the stocks are Hogue cocobolo.

I'm late to this 952 party, but man, what a beautiful bunch of pistols these are! I hope to own one someday and to fire the heck out of it! Just based on its reputation, I voted for it as one of the best ever produced by the Performance Center.

My only problem, well, besides not being able to afford one yet , is deciding whether I like the blued or the stainless versions better! They both are "10s" in my book!

You just started it.

Where are your pictures?

Personally I would not put the 52 and the 952 in the same thread. They are not even close to being related in handling or performance, they just look alike.

I will be 80 in a few days. I was in the Marine Corps for 20
years, 1952 to 1972. I shot in NRA Matches, 2700. I was
a expert until I bought a Model 52-1. My scores went up and I
received my Master card. I still shoot just about every week in
the Gun club shoots. I use the Model 41, Model 52-1 and the
Smith 45 cal revolver. I have other guns but when I want to
win I use the best. I can still split a card at 35 feet with
the Model 52. I cast my own bullets and make my own lube.
I have not shot a store bought in 42 years. I am still the best shot in this area. The 52-1 is the best gun smith & Wesson
every built.

SGTV,
welcome to the best forum on the internet. I am about to turn 67 and having difficulty with irons. You just keep going, shooting, and winning. You are 80, and a flag bearer for the rest of us. Keep it up, and I hope I'm 1/4 as good as you at your age.

Happy birthday, SGTV!

Richard

I still shoot this one occasionally in centerfire matches...might try it next week up at the Austin match. It has BoMar sights.

Sarge. what bullets and powder do you shoot in your 52. I have been using HBWC (my own casting) and bullseye 2.6. Am changing to Clays 2.6, it seems to be cleaner when using in my 1911. George

Default 52-2 Setup for CF ( 2700 )

Well here's mine . I set this up with the heavier ISSF sear / spring so trigger would be like my 45 wadgun . My Marvel conversion is setup the same . I too do not shoot commercial ammo . If you compete / train unless extremely well heeled factory ammo is out of the question , especially at the volume we shoot . Pics attached along with some 50yd training targets . It's a great gun for trigger control training , as feedback is immediate . Screw up & shot is off in the white . For those who don't know we shoot one handed , not two & not off a bench either .

I have a H.Gibbs mold and it is a 148 grain WC.
I like 2.8grains of B.Eye.
Good for 50yds and 25yds.
I shot this load in many 2700 NRA matchs.
I made Master in 1971

The model 52 magazines easily convert to 6 rounds. And if you are good at machining and get the slots at the proper angle they can be converted to 7 rounds

Had my 52 for some time, and have about a dozen magazines for her. 5 rounds has never bothered me in the slightest. I have a case or two of older Winchester ammo for her, but it is put back as I reload my own as well. I like the Ivories for her, but wish I could fine a nice pair of Stags for my 639.
