Default Barrel Markings...

Just curious about my old Colt Gov't model and some of you Smith folks may know; All of my SW 3rd Gen semi autos have the caliber stamped on the top of the barrel, visible in the ejection port, .45 acp, 10mm, 9mm, etc. I have an older Colt Gov't model, circa 1979-80, that has no markings on the barrel as to caliber? I'm pretty sure I got the pistol new(er) back then but paid no attention to the barrel. Did Colt not mark their barrels back then or is this a replacement barrel? This has me rather curious...

Did some research, looks like somewhere along the way, the Colt barrel got replaced... Oh well.
