PC 945-1 Prototype?
I saw a 945-1 on one of the auction boards this AM. 5 inch barrel, flat black finish, ambi safety and a TSW style rail bolted on it. PCZ serial prefix. I can't make out all the numbers but it appears to be a few numbers distant from my PC 45 CQB prototype.
I know that not all S&W prototypes got a PCZ serial prefix, but many did. Another thing that I noticed is that the frame appears cut to accept the TSW rail. Interesting gun. $1400 asking price.
You don't see many 945's with an ambi safety either. If not for that stupid rail I might have been interested. Regards 18DAI

I've been watching that one for a while, it first went up some time ago. If its not original, someone sure went to a lot of trouble to cut the frame and put that ugly rail on there. Looks like he also added a tritium night sight to the front. I did see one other one like it (without the rail) about a year ago, flat black with the straight serrations, and I could kick myself for not getting it - its about the only variation I don't have in my collection. And I don't remember seeing a picture of the right side to know if it had an ambi safety. I do have a dash-1 stainless 5" with fish scale serrations that has the ambi safety, however, so it wouldn't be the only model Smith ever made like that.
Also, the SN is hard to see in his ****** photo, but it appears to be PCZ01xx, and if so, that would be about 40 numbers below my PC 45 CQB prototype.

Interesting. It sure looks like a factory set up to me. S&W told me that the previous gun and next gun after my prototype 45CQB PCZ0331, were both 945's.
I remember a melonite 4566 that the factory set up for one of the gun rags. It had the after thought TSW style rail attacment and the frame was cut identically.
Nice to know that there are some 945's made with ambi safety. I'm a lefty and the lack of an ambi was one of the reasons I didn't look at 945's.
Now to find a 4 inch black 945 with an ambi safety and Novak night sights. Regards 18DAI

I know of 3 945-1 PC#170174 (5" barrel,3 dot white fixed sights, black finish, ambi safety). Mine is PCZ04xx and a friend has the same gun with the serial number one higher than mine.Mine left the factory 3-28- 2002 shipped to Lew Horton then shipped to Pittsburg Army Navy store 4-6-2002.I got the gun about 2004. The third gun was shot by a Mississippi Hyway patrolman at the police nationals.
Smith & Wession and a factory letter were not much help . After talking to a member in the Performance Center he confirmed that my gun was shipped as described and also said there were aslo a few made with a light rail.
I have also been watching that listing.

Thanks for the info Tom!!
I read the "Catalog of 945 variants" in the notable thread index here.
Two of the last photos in that thread show identical pistols to the one on the auction boards. Close in serial number too.
Interesting guns. Regards 18DAI

My 945 PC#170174 has ambi safety and Novak night sights, did not buy it new so do not know if the sights are factory.

jag22 go to Gunbroker. Search semi auto pistols for "945-1". The second entry down is the gun we are referencing. $1499 price tag. Regards 18DAI
