Anyone want a 4566TSW Kentucky State Police
Stopped by my LGS this morning to give some Christmas wishes and he showed me a 4566TSW Kentucky State Police he just had gotten. It looked to be un-fired with box and 3 mags. Someone had changed the hammer to a spur type, the original hammer is included. The serial number is only 5 different than mine. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM and I will give you the name and phone number. Sorry, I didn't ask about pricing since I already have one.

Thanks for the Heads up! Is it stainless or melonite? I don't remember how they came. Does it have a rail?
Thanks!

The Kentucky State Police 4566's were all stainless with no provisions for a rail. No safeties, just a hammer drop. Long story behind them, they were never issued as a duty pistols. Pure Kentucky politics of years ago.
It looks just like this one, but has standard S&W grips.

Wanted to thank mike for the info. i called the LGS and talked to the owner. "as new in box, with 3 mags. Marked KSP with KSP serial number. He wants $999.99 and there was no room to negotiate. just return policy if not satisfied.
It the price ball park or over the top? What are some of the expert opinions out there? I'm looking for a 4566tsw, but not a safe queen. thanks

No "expert" opinion here but that's roughly double what I would think is reasonable.

I bought one of those just a few years ago at a Kentucky gun show for $725 NIB. Seems like all pistols have elevated prices these days.

There's a recent comparable KSP 4566TSW on GB (except for the customized hammer) that sold for $655 in "apparently unfired" condition. The buyer got a good deal on that one, I think. I think the LGS is a little optimistic on the price of this one, but being a no-rail and in such pristine condition, it's a really nice pistol, no question about it.

I'm not interested or a buyer at that price. I would just wait my turn until a better price or something else comes along.

If S&W would make new 4566's today, what would a new one cost? Throw in some history to the value and that should get you close to the value of the 4566.

Sounds like way to much to me, picked mine up about a year ago for $550.00, I know they have gone up a little but I don't think that much. And for me I don't like the police markings on them, IMO

Nice looking pistol but I wouldn't pay a cent more than $600 for it, including tax, transfer fees, shipping, etc.

I have to agree with most of you, his pricing is on the high side. Maybe if he sits on it for awhile it might come down.
There are a couple of ways to look at this, if you are wanting just a shooter go for a straight 4566TSW LE trade ins. If you are wanting a casual shooter and something with an unusual history and low production numbers for a semi-safe queen, go for a 4566TSW KSP.
I've heard numerous different stories as to why KSP never adopted the 4566, some political, some said they failed the field trials, a few wanted Glocks. I think that there were less than 750 produced. I have only seen serial numbers between KSP0800 and KSP1190. I bought mine about 5 years ago and paid a premium at that time.

I always chuckle at these threads. I paid 1600 dollars for a NIB WVSP 4566TSW. Worth it? Uhhhh .... Heck yeah!!!!! How many brand new Melonite 4566TSWs with machined in rails do you see? The quality is phenomenal. Easily rivals a SIG. Is it too expensive? As I've said a million times before.....it is if you won't pay it. The seller has something unusual and of course wants top dollar. If you can afford it and want it, pick it up....then send us a range report. If not, keep moving, let us have our fun

More than I'd pay, but I already have a plain Jane 4566TSW. Look at it this way: What would a new S&W 1911 cost? Probably at least $800 for the basic model. Many models exceed $1K. If it is truely in new, unfired condition, I would think that somewhere around the $800 mark would not be unreasonable.

IMO, 3rd Gen prices are so varied it really boils down to what the gun is worth to the buyer. For me $1000 is too much, however, there are only a handful of KSP 4566's out there and if you want one that's not a completely out of like price for excellently built all steel .45.

"Post of the Day".
Yes, you might keep looking and find a great deal around $650 or so.
But what do quality new 1911's and metal SIGs go for? And this one is practically a fully tuned custom shop TSW.
I'd pay $1000 for a gun of this quality if that's what I was looking for.
By the way, originally West Virginian myself, and would love to find a NIB melonited WVSP 3rd. Gen!

I bought two service WVSP 4566TSW pistols a couple of years ago. I paid $625 ea and thought they were worth every penny. They were not NIB but were in great condition showing very little wear and night sights were/are stil active. I've since sold one to a forum member on here.

I'd love a decock only, that in itself is worth extra money, but not that much more IMO. Value is what you would be willing to pay.
Just yesterday I picked up a regular LE trade in 4566TSW for $375. I didn't really need another third gen but I didn't have a TSW or a 4566 so the price was worth it to me. As I said, it depends on what value a buyer puts on the gun.

At that price I would have bought it as well. I bet it even shoots as well as the +$1k versions. Either way, I don't understand why people think they need to justify to others the price one is willing to pay or not pay.

Stopped by the LGS today and evidently someone did not think his pricing was too far out of line for a fine pistol. It is sold and I am pretty sure someone from Smith & Wesson Forum grabbed it up.

Well how do you guys feel now about the price of $999.99 five years later?
According to the standard catalog of S&W 4th edition 4566 TSW
ANIB $750.00, Ex cond $600.00 and $450.00.

Just an update on pricing of S&W 4566TSW with KSP logo, new in box, never issued / never fired.
Haven't seen one on Armslist or Gunbroker is a couple years. That one sold for $900. But, on Tuesday afternoon, March 5, 2019, one was listed on Armslist for $550. At that price, an offer was made, and accepted, in less than two hours.

I know this is 3 years later (almost), but I thought I'd chime in to say that I watched two of the KSP TSW 4566's bid up to $2,700 + and both sold at those prices. I think that was back in July or August.
I believe I would sell mine for that, as much as I love it. I had two, and sold one for about half that maybe two years ago. Both ANIB, lowest number was in the 300 range. Still haven't learned how may were ever made though.

You can say that a lot about guns we bought years ago . I bought a 4566 here years ago , it sat in the for sale section for a while and I made an offer . Come to find out it was 1 of 14 sent to Lew Horton . Last year it was sold and I made almost 4 times what I paid for it .

Then it's perfect.
It's doubly reasonable.
For anyone who needs justification, you're welcome.
If you want it- pay it. You wont find a second, more than likely, in that condition.
