Finally joined the 10mm club
So after almost a 3 year wait the 10mm 1006 finally showed up with my name on it. This is the 4th one ive seen and handled. The other 3 were beaters or "shooters" you might say wearing pricetags in the 700+ range. So, why did I buy this one you say? Answer, basically new in box with paperwork and flag and a S&W holster for $675. These dont come around my parts often and when I saw it, the contents plus the price I knew it was mine. Im pretty sure its unfired but as we all know its hard to tell on these 3rd gens.the only thing that made this purchase hard was the unfired 627-0 gun of 1989 sitting on the other case for $699. I might go back for that one next week. uploadfromtaptalk1390674250712.jpg

Welcome. You will love the 10mm esp. if you reload. I would have bought that in 10 cold seconds. I did sort of the same thing with a Delta Gold Cup. I did not need new in box, but wanted one that had not been "beavertailed" or "ambi saftied", etc. It took me a couple years but found one for about $1K. I took off the rubber grips and put some in Ironwood from Raasco on it. Colt was still grooving the front of the frame back then. Why cover it up?
I still keep my eyes open for nice 610 and 310 S&W revolvers also, but an old S&W 10mm pistol for a deal like that........

Congrats on your 1006!! I know the exuberance you're feeling, being in CA it took me years to get mine after I decided that I wanted one.
I just received the 3 mags I ordered from Midway... jump on them quick, I expect they'll go out of stock as the word gets out that Midway has them.

Finally joined the 10mm club
I'm in CA as well and I have seen many 1006 for sale. I sold one and bought another last year. There is even some schmuck wanting $1400 for one now.
I personally would go back for the 627-0 right now! You will see the 1006 for sale before the other and if you don't like the 627 you can make money selling it on the boards here. Lol

Yep... I had been going nuts watching 1006's in SoCal come and go on the CA gun forum while I was waiting for one to appear up here in NorCal, the odds of getting one in SoCal always seems better.
Probably the reason why the guy in Sac thinks his is worth $1400... he'll be waiting for awhile.

Welcome to the 10mm family. After my first S&W 10mm I couldn't stop until I had an example of every model. Don't regret buying any of them.

Outstanding! And, I like the fact you waited for one in the right condition to show up. I've passed on some interesting 3rd and 2nd Gens because they were closer to beater than 99%. Frankly, you got an excellent deal on that baby, IMHO.
Here's mine. Hey, let's mate 'em and see if we can't get ourselves a litter of 1066s.

The 1006 is a great gun and you got yourself a dandy.
What I want and don't see ever in my area is a 1066 or 1076. I can only hope that day I stumble with some luck on one.

Welcome to the sickness... Don't be amazed when you end up running into a 1066, 1076 and 1026, start foaming at the mouth, and find your wallet much flatter.
I like shooting 200gr myself although 180gr are also good. Start reloading if you don't already. 10mm is a reloader's caliber in more ways than 3.

I've heard rumors that if you mate a 1006 and 1066 you'll get a 1076

Underwood is fun on the range. Last time I was there a guy with an AK-47 was shooting next to me. I started shooting my 1076 with the Underwood 180TMJ's and he stopped looked at his partner and said "what is that guy (me) shooting?" My boom was bigger than his.

Welcome to the family!! My 1076's are my favs. Definitely head turns are the range, happens to me every time. Stock up on mags and enjoy shooting. I've ran 1k rounds through at the range a few times. It's an addiction so be care. A buddy (a friend of the family that is retired) reloads for me. He says that's what keeps him getting up in the mornings, so I shoot, he reloads, great combo, works for me.

I've also just join the 10mm club with the purchase of my 1066.
Now I'm looking for a 1046 apparently the rarest one made.
I know I'll find one sooner or later.

The 1046 is nothing really that special except for there only being 151 made, from a Nuclear Plant Security team (iirc) which was a special order. Almost any 3rd gen can be specifically made to LEO specifications regardless of the current model made. Parts on the 10xx series interchange and slight differences exist among them. Some decockers, some safeties some DAO, it really depends on what you are looking for. All 10xx series pistols I have come across suffer from trigger drift which can be corrected by competent 3rd gen gunsmiths.

I'm in SoCal and, yes, I was able to buy mine in SoCal through a private party transfer. But I did penance: had to go 401 miles to NoCal twice for a cousin: a 4506.
No regrets in either case. Welcome to the fraternity!
