Default Engraved and Gold Inlaid Model 41

I'm mostly a revolver guy and don't spend a lot of time in this section of the forum, BUT I ran across a couple of nicely engraved Model 41's that worked in my collection of engraved 22s.

I'm not sure who the engraver is, but I really like this 22 that shipped in April 1968:

Pretty much full coverage everywhere... and it came to me in its factory box.

As always, your thoughts, comments, observations, and impressions are welcome.

Thanks for letting me share,

Richard, You have again managed to obtain another beautifully engraved gun, this time in a semi-auto. The gold animals are spectacular and your pictures are breath taking showcasing another one of your talents. Thanks for sharing.

You have been holding out on us, I do not remember you ever showing that. The 41 is my favorite to shoot, and would probably be the last gun if I only had one. That would look nice on my office wall , ( don't think I could leave that in that safe ).

PS : Oil bottle is on my desk.

I love it - but does it group well?

John

P.S. It reminds me of this old Gun Digest illustration -

Lovely stuff for sure, very nice engraving, but I would have preferred them without the gold hunting elements. They don't seem to fit with a rimfire pistol, particularly a 41 target gun.

I purchased it from Cabelas several months ago and shot the photos a couple of weeks ago. So, this is the maiden post for this beauty.

This gun showed me that the 41 is a great canvas for an engraving project. I love all the surfaces that are "engravable", particularly the face of the barrel... It has been a fun ride to get acquainted with this beauty.

Really nice engraving! A nice blending of oak leaf and acanthus scroll. It looks like it could be the engraver's signature in the close up of the bird. To the right. It is a TH or HT. Can't think of any engraver with those initials. Thanks for sharing.

Very very nice. The engraving quality and design are beautiful. I wonder what prompted the original owner to gold inlay the figures he did? I would think a squirrel, a rabbit, and maybe a tin can with a few holes, and a bullseye might fit the guns theme better? Maybe he was a bird & deer hunter as well and wanted to cover all the bases Its a stunning piece.

Very nice! I have a 41 with it's serial number differing by about 200. Mine is distinctly plain in comparison! I see that you came across ". . . a couple of nicely engraved Model 41's . . . ." Will we get a look at the second one? Please?

Wow! but I would also agree that while the engraving is exceptional the animal inlays are not correct on a target pistol. The grips are a little blah too for such a beautiful M41.

Very pretty engraving on that Model 41. Absolutely beautiful. I really like the gold fill figures. Thanks for sharing. I think the gun looks just right.

Congratulations
Another great addition to the Family

First time I was at the Factory, I watched Paul Piquette work on a Model 41

I can not recall the year, but I think that day moved me further toward wanting engraved firearms

The engraving on that M41 was done by a very skilled and talented Engraver for sure - it's very clean and well executed, that's for sure.

Two things perplex me. First off, I was under the impression most professional Engravers put their name or initials in the engraving somewhere. Secondly, whoever commissioned the engraving had game animals gold inlayed that are not usually associated with a 22 Target Pistol.

That said, whoever did it did a top notch job and it is a beauty. Are you going to shoot it?

Perhaps the owner who commissioned the engraving was an outdoorsman. I have a near mint early model 41. I’ve squirrel hunted with it and killed a few nuisance muskrats with it. I love oak leaf, acorn and game animal engravings. I see nothing wrong with subject of engraving. It’s what the owner cherished.

It resembles one that was part of a 3 gun set presented to Roy Jinks many years ago at the Masters International Shooting Championship. But I only sat that one one time.

I love all the comments about the inlaid dove, retriever with duck, buck, and rabbit. I have had some of the same feelings - why on a target 22? My thoughts:

* Engraving and inlays are a way to personalize and customize any firearm
* The animal scenes are what the person who commissioned the engraving wanted on his gun
* The model 41, was the commissioner's favorite handgun and he was pairing it with his love of small and large game hunting
* and my favorite possibility - the owner was a crack shot with the Model 41 and he actually hunted each of the animals in the scenes with a 22 specifically designed to punch holes in paper... I know... not likely... but maybe...

I have this K-22 revolver that has a bear on it... same story...

Regardless of why, I do enjoy the scenes and I like them on their respective 22s.

If I shot a bear with a K22 ,I for sure would have it engraved to commemorate that (assuming I lived thru it).

So the images may not be consistent with a 22 target pistol? Doesn’t matter to me. Art doesn’t have to make sense. When it stirs something inside us, it has succeeded. Your 41 appeals to me. It’s fascinating to look at. Same with your K-22. It’s not difficult for me to separate firearms as art vs. firearms as shooters. Please keep sharing your treasures with us. They are spectacular!

I wish that was the case. Only 50%-60% of my engraved guns have any engraver mark on them. Factory engravers were sometimes prohibited from marking their work. In addition, those that worked for certain German engraving shops were often required to mark their work with the owner or shop name...

Probably not, but I understand that these 41s are tack drivers. One of my three Model 41's is not engraved. If I were to shoot any of them, that would probably be the one...

The critics are brutal. What do you want on it a couple of bullseye targets?
The pistol is an artist's canvas, and this one has a lot of flat perfect surfaces. I seriously doubt that this will show up at a bullseye meet and be set on a filthy carbon covered bench
while people ask you if they can touch it.

My old under 5,000 41 would be the shooter, that masterpiece would be to look at.
