Default Help me decide...

So last year I picked up a 4006 after not having one for years. I bought a 4006 just a few months after they were released back in 1991 and kept it for a few years then traded it off for a Sig 229. The one I had back then and the one I recently purchased are the adjustable sights models. I've never been really fond of the look of the protective wings on the slide. I've been looking for a replacement slide with the Novak sights and I've not had any luck. However, just like I did on the original one I had, I was able to score what I think to be the very last set of Millett Adjustable 3rd Gen sights in the world. The originals I bought were a white outlined rear with an orange post front. All I could get this time was a 3-dot, white dots configuration. I was able to get new Trijicon sights for the S&W factory adjustable sights so they are like new, but again, I just don't like the look that much. There's no night sight nor really any other options for the Milletts. Since I can't find a Novak slide I'm really relegated to using what I have.

So my questions are:

Should I just suck it up and get over my dislike of the original adjustable sights so I can stick with Trijicons? I do have night sights on every other defensive pistol I own.

Should I stick with these Milletts since I like the profile look a bit more, but I lose the night sights? I'm not sure I would use this pistol for any real defense mode, I bought it more for nostalgia.

So I guess I'm just asking for what look you all like? Which looks better to everyone?

Original...

With Millett replacements...

Thanks all.

My 4506-1 has factory adjustable sights with protective wings like yours. I like the look so well, I decided to only shop for a 4506 with adjustable sights. But that's my preference. The 4506 sits in the safe and goes to the range. I have night sights and lasers on my defense pistols and shotgun.

Go with the Millett sights if that's the look you like.

I like the Novaks better than the wings myself, but in my opinion, if you bought the pistol for 'Nostalgia' the wings look better than the Milletts,

I would only use the Milletts if the gun were a target pistol.

Keep your feet and knees together Ranger.

They both look great but I have to admit that the 'wings' have never been my favorite. But regardless, is there a better looking pistol out there? I don't think so.

I'm not qualified to tell you what to like or not. I'll merely point out what I see as advantages the factory adjustable has over the Millet replacement.

...Quite snag free as adjustable go, easier draw from concealment
...Can be equipped with tritium lamps
...Superior protection from impact damage
...Replacement parts still readily available

Were I in your place I think I'd keep it as is, maybe add the night sights and keep looking for a Novak slide from a parted out gun. One will turn up eventually.

Cheers
Bill

Given the 2 choices, I would go with the factory sights. Another option: list the slide you have as a possible trade for a slide with the Novak sights. I'll bet someone out there is looking for a slide with adjustable sights.
