What the prevailing opinions about the Model 41 from the Performance Center?

I would rather take the money I see them going for these days, and pick up a Like New or near new 1958-1959 model 41, 7 3/8, or you can find LNIB
5 1/2 HB models for even less than that.
I do believe the Performance center gun is no more accurate than any other model 41, but that of all the later produced performance center pistol should hold its value as a collector. I have yet to buy one myself, since I typically buy only early A series and Pre A series pistols.

Having not looked up the current 41 from the Perf. Center I can't help but believe that its similar if not the same as the dealer exclusive that was worked up for the Gallery of Guns about two years ago.
Some glitz but no added finctionality or better performance.
Just my $0.02!

Butt ugly and too many problems with them as noted here and elsewhere.

IMO - The functionality differences would be:

1) Ease of mounting optics. (This is the big difference, it is easier and the optic sets lower.)
2) Slightly thinner grips.
3) Slightly better trigger.

Yes, I agree that the traditional look of the Model 41 with 7 or 7 3/8 barrel is hard to beat. If optics are mounted, then, I prefer the look of the PC 41 over the 41. To each his own. It is a hard decision to make, that is why most own more than one.

Smithfan makes a good point about the value of the older Model 41s. However, Performance Center may stop producing a Model 41 without much notice. If they were to stop making a PC Model 41, then it would hold it's value very well I believe. I have already seen them sell for $350 above retail.

I'm with Tom. I don't like the looks of it either.

I bid on one on GB. It sold for $1875. Not to me.
Last week one sold for $1495 with "Buy it now".
The rail and the higher sights would be the only advantage I see.
The newer standard 41's are drilled and tapped for a rail that sells for $8.
The Weaver #62.
ALL Model 41's seem to command a high selling price these days.
I'd probably rather have a PC model over the standard, but $400 difference? No.

I would look for a very early model as I was told from an old S&W gunsmith that the early barrels were lead lapped and that the early barrels shoot better. I cannot compare to the new barrels but know my old guns can shoot better than what I can hold. GM
