Gun Show Score!!! 1076
This morning I got up early to hit a small gun show in the middle of nowhere really. Generally, my tactics are I go up and down every row, note things I am interested in and then go back and look at them harder. I did just that and when I got to the very last table on my first pass what did I see but a S&W 1076 with the Palm Swell grips on the table for $650.00. Really I was only looking for certain other targets of opportunity like a 1006, 1066, CS45, Nickel plated Model 10HB, or an M&Pc 357Sig (ah well there is another big gun show in Mid-March). I calmly looked at it, checked the action, noted that the finish was easily 99% and told the guy sold. It came with no case and 2 mags. I quickly exited before he could change his mind. I paid more for my other 1076. This one is different in that there are no MIM parts on it. Also the slide does not say capable of firing with magazine removed (but it does). I think the trigger may also be a little better than mine.
I may be sending out for the letter on Monday after I call S&W to see if they can tell me anything about it.
Anyway here are the pictures before I cleaned it.

Looks like a nice piece and I think the price was right too! I'd be interested in the palm swell grips if you decide to do that.

Dang.... these days ANY 3rd gen for $650 is getting to be considered a good price, let alone an FBI 1076 still wearing it's palm swell grips.
Some FBI guns were produced without the warning, but I've read the another tip off of them being an FBI versus the regular 1076 is the front grip frame is checked like yours versus just being rows of parallel lines running top to bottom for the non-FBI guns.

I need a mag
I need a 15 rnd mag for my 5900 series. I've seen a very few in the last year, but unfortunately have higher priorities and no money. I hope that when I can afford it, I can find what I want. It seems that S&W could sell all of these they make.

Very Nice! Is there anyone in particular you can talk to at SW to get info before sending off for a factory letter? I have a 1076 that has all the traits and serial number range of one of the FBI guns, but I'd hate to spend the money on a letter if it is not.

If you call them at customer service they can tell you where it originally was shipped. Mine was originally shipped to some police surplus store. The FBI insignia is not the be all end all, I have ran into some that have been beat all up that are FBI guns and some that are pristine. Honestly, they really do not bring much more money being an FBI gun.
Mine sports a Novaks port and polish combined with a trigger job rounded out with a top of the line Milt Sparks holster. A lot of the people complain about the run through and trigger. Mine has both issues covered. They are great guns IMO though and at 650 the OP got a great deal.
