Default Year of Production

I never had all that much interest in these threads, but now that I have four 3rd generation compacts, I'm more interested.

Would this by the place to list the partial serial numbers to ask?

I just need the year, not a more detailed pedigree.

Thanks.

Do you have the original boxes? If so, there might be a "spec ord" number that can be decoded. The first number will be the year of manufacture (so you have to know which decade your gun was made), followed by the day within the year. For example, my 4013TSW has a spec ord number of 6317, the 317th day of 1996, or November 12, 1996.

Unfortunately, the only one for which I have a box, it isn't the correct box. However I have a 6906 and 5906 which do have the boxes. Thanks for the tip, I'll check those two.

Edit: While looking for the boxes for the 5906 and 6906, I found two boxes I forgot I had. One is for a 457 and one for my CS9. The 457 has a # of 8307, the CS9 8203. I take those to mean that they were made in 1998. The 5906 has a production date of 9159. Based on when I bought that I think it means 1989. The 6906 is 3043, which I think means 1993, but could be 2003. I bought that used from a dealer in 2008 and it was a PD trade in.
