Default 5906 Questions

Hi All,

I'm going to look at & fire a 5906 in the next week. The guy that has it says he doesn't like the trigger because it has no over travel after it trips. I'm not sure that is a problem & wonder if this is normal or if it is a concern? He also said the trigger travel is ~ 95% before fire. Again is this normal?

Is there anything else to check out? From what I've read, these are very solid and keepers. I've got a Browning HP that is a pleasure but want something to keep it company.

I don't have a problem with over travel on mine. If the pistol hasn't been modified, it is TDA, or traditional double action. The first shot is a long pull, & all the follow up shots are the very short pull the guy mentioned. It takes some getting used to, but I wouldn't have it any other way. It makes for a quick reset & follow up shot. Hope this helps!

Sounds about right--some people are just more particular than others. Coming off a few Glocks, it was hard for me to get used to it at first. But once I did, she's a real sweet shooter.

The DA trigger is typical--very long. The SA trigger has a little bit of creep/grit and then breaks crisply.

It's a very...heavy...gun. Maybe heavier in the hand than my 1911. But man is she a piece of eye candy and one heckuva shooter. I got lucky and my 5906/459 have the adjustable sights. My 6926 doesn't and I wish it did.

Yes, it is a little heavy, especially compared to its alloy brother, the Model 5903. I have one of each, both TSW's. The weight doesn't bother me at the range, though. I honestly can't say which one I prefer;I'm just glad I have both. You should post some pics!

Thanks for the information, I'll let you know what I decide. He is asking $500 with 3 mags and a box of shells. I figure this is equivalent to $450 to $460 which seems to be inline with today's prices.

I hope it works out to your satisfaction. And, like friend timn8er, I also hope you post pics. I have a fond feeling for the heavy 5906 - I was working in a gun store when they were released and they had that "Oooo, high tech!" feeling, and the local police department went over to them (we sold them to them and wound up selling hundreds of their 66s through The Gun List, at prices that would give people here heart attacks) and they were just so solid and clean and accurate and reliable. And indestructible! I remember sitting out on my balcony, detail-cleaning one for a police cadet I knew, and the thing just reeked of quality. Every one that I shot was accurate and utterly reliable.

Anyway, when all the copshops sold them off for Glunks, I thought about picking one up through CDNN, but put it off for so long (I mean, I don't really need one - I've got other guns for that role) that the prices got high for me (cheap-o that I am ). But I honestly can't see a 5906 without thinking, "Ah, that's a gun."

the SA trigger pull is improved easily, the DA a bit more trouble.
as is common with any sa/da pistol.
