10mm fans.. Swamp Fox Ammo
I know this ammo is no longer sold as the owner died that supplied the Swamp Fox Brand. But I had a round blow up on me today. I have had the box for about 1 year. All is well with me and the pistol is in tact. It did ruin the follower and shook me up. The ammo looked fine... just a haeds up.
I was shooting a newer model 2012 1911 Delta Elite.

Ahhh, the good 'ol stuff. Willard liked 'em a little warm. The Deltas don't have enough support around the case head to handle them confidently, as you can see.

Yes I see that now. My 1006 seats it much farther in. I guess I will reserve this for my 3rd Gen Smiths.

WOW! Glad you are alright. I was told by the people at Double Tap ammo, and Underwood ammo, not to fire their loads in Colt Delta Elites for that very reason. Guess they are right

I also had 2 Swamp Fox loads blow up in my Delta a while back. I now use the Underwood 180g 1240 FPS ammo he specifically makes for the Delta.
RIP Mike.

What you experienced is called a case blowout, because of high pressure and lack of case support in the area. Thanks for your report of the case blowout, glad you were not hurt seriously!
I'd like to know which weight bullets you have of the Swamp Fox Ammo?
I have been documenting these rounds in "Pull-Downs" over at the 10mmFirearms Forum see this link; Swamp Fox ammo Pull-Downs 180gr & 200gr Others still Needed! - 10mm-firearms.com
If you have some that you'd could share for the pulled-downs, then PM me for further info. Everyone can learn from these documentations!
Mike Willard (may he RIP) he was a nice guy and did push the limits of 10mm as we know it and what is possible. I have started this as a tribute to him on a couple of forums as part of 10mm history!
Best Regards!

It was not the ammo the Delta leaves the rear of the case unsupported and you are lucky you still have use of your hand!!! NEVER EVER RUN FULL POWER 10MM IN A COLT DELTA ELITE!!!
This sticker is on every box of full power 10mm ammo Underwood sells. You just found out WHY it's there!!

The Underwood box is clearly marked as you have shown, however I don't recall the warning on the SwampFox boxes, especially the early packaging. I had some good discussions with Mike Willard and he saw where his ammo was needing some adjustments and or warnings just before he passed.
I still frequent this fine forum probably daily but don't get to post as often and have been hanging around here since 2007. I like many here, have a thirst for the wealth of knowledge of all things 10mm and a few other cartridges and firearms as well.
I have tried to study any info concerning case rupture, blowouts and outright k-booms...
The K-Booms are real and not subject to just 10mm or Glocks...

Thanks all. I have fired 1000s of rounds through my D.E. There is no warning on the Swamp Fox Ammo box. But he 1st time I had used any. Besides being shaken up the biggest damage I can find to the gun was when it blew the Delta Logo off the right panel. Fixed it with some glue. The follower/ mag was damaged but it was a spare I had. Still have original 2. The mag did not want to come out as the explosion actually sucked the mag up in a little farther than it is supposed to be...it was jammed. Once I got the rounds out through the top ejector port I was able to use a little more force and out it came.
I took the pistol apart , cleaned it and it cycles rounds in to the chamber just fine with the good mags. I don't see any damage. However, I am probably going to sell it for a 3rd gen since it won't handle any hot loads. Beautiful pistol too. I even had a trigger job done on it.

Smart move as I can not fathom why Colt does not fix that design.
I agree that the Deltas feel and look absolutely wonderful. They also are very accurate and as long as you shoot what would be a +P .40 round you are safe with them.
The Rock Island or Kember 1911 platform 10mm's both have the ramp barrel and proper case support which makes them safe with full power 10mm ammo. It escapes me why Colt refuses to go to a ramped barrel on that pistol and fix that issue. Consider yourself lucky that you still have use of your hand!
The S&W's however are a whole other beast from the 1911 platform and the toughest most rugged 10mm's out there. Not only are they tough but both of us have never ever had a failure to feed issue with our S&W 3rd gen 10's and I think these things will eat anything! I kid you not both my 1066 and my sons 1076 will actually cycle new starline raw brass!! Show me anything else that will do that?
I absolutely adore my 1066 and look forward to the day I can pick up a full size 1006 to go with it!!

Looking to preserve the history of Mike Willard's 10mm work for everyone present and future. Still like to see some other SwampFox Ammo like the 135's, 155's, 165's, 175's and if he made any 155 or 175 SilverTip Ammo...
Please If any one has some original Swamp Fox ammo please consider sending 1 or 2 rounds for the pull-down study and documentation. Maybe someone will spare a round or two if they have any of the ammo left in their inventory. If they want the ammo put back together and want it sent back afterwards, I can do that to.

I don't think so...I think yours were 180 grain?
However sgtbones sent two of the 175 Silvertips, 180 Gold Dots, 200XTP's that were done and added to the documentations.

First off....my favorite caliber handgun for over 3 decades has been my .41mag revolvers. I have two stainless Ruger Redhawks. One is a 7.5" with a 2X Leupold Handgun Scope that I use for handgun hunting and a 4" custom that is my field carry.
I always wanted a gun that would get close to the .41mag but in a semi auto firearm. I started reading about the 10mm and was hooked. My first purchase was a Stainless Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup, with original box and papers. A buddy needed cash bad and I bought it for a song. I have shot about 800 rounds through it of factory ammo and never had a problem. I came across a like new 1066 and just had to have it. It has been flawless as well and will shoot anything super hot or .40ish cold. My latest purchase because I wanted a high cap 10 was the Springfield XDM 4.5. I have only put a few hundred rounds through it but it is a hoot to shoot as well. Just takes a while longer to load the mag's due to quantity.
