Auction's over now -- lasted all of about three hours -- so it's safe to post about them now without getting a dinger. (Trust me, I know.... )

An apparently excellent condition Shorty 45 went "Buy It Now" at $1,149 yesterday evening on GB. A thing of beauty, from an estate collection. I wrote to ask if it came with a box or any extra mags -- not that I had the itch, or the scratch -- but didn't hear anything back so who knows.

Also, a Shorty 9 similar condition went "Buy It Now" for $1,049 to the same buyer. Looked to be the "5906 PC 9" version without the billboard on the side, in the duo-tone. Sweet!

I sure hope somebody on here was the buyer. What great pistols, and rare as hen's teeth to see come up at auction. I think the prices were good for what they were. If they'd been mine, they wouldnta been sold in the first place, but if I did put 'em up, I would have added a couple hundred to those prices, I think!

Forgive me if I'm wrong but the Shorty 9 would be a 69xx based gun and not in the 59xx series. I'm sure they made 59xx series PC guns but they wouldn't be Shorties. If I'm off on this I'm sure someone will enlighten me.

the prices on these have really gone threw the roof off the ceiling and into the stratosphere. I guess it is good for people who own them but man some of the prices are just ridiculous, what these sold for just 5 - 10 years ago vs. today. Is a big difference, makes me wonder what is going on for the market to go to what these have been selling for (I do not track gun prices). Beat up, logo missing examples are selling for 1150-1500 dollars.

With all due respect, my friends, the Shorty 9 is the size of a 6900 series, but I must plead my correctness in describing it as a 5906 PC-9 the way the labels on the boxes read on these particular pistols -- the ones with no billboard on them, unlike the way the later Shorty 9s were.

It's one of those idiosyncracies of the S&W numbering system, the way the original Shorty 40 was described as a PC 4006.

Not trying to be a stickler here, but right is right.

And I'm right so seldom, I need to milk this for all it is worth.
