Default 5906 Rear Sight Slide on a 459

Just curious if anyone has ever looked in to or actually done this.

The sights on my 5906 are a pleasure to use. The sights on my 459, well...not so much. I look at them side-by-side and can't tell a difference in terms of the sight assemblies themselves. So I wonder to myself: "are they directly interchangeable?"

I figured the two-dot rear sight slide installed on the 459, along with the front post painted white or maybe green, would make for much easier target acquisition.

Thoughts?

They show to be different part numbers...whether it can be made to work I just don't know.

The adjustable rear sights on the 2nd gens were a carry over to the 3rd gens... but whether or not the rear sight blade height used on the 5906 will work is another question, the 2nd gen front sight blade is milled into the slide, and 3rd gen front sight is dovetailed. I don't know if there is enough of a height difference between the two to matter.

I have seen a 2nd gen slide machined to use a dovetail front sight.

You can have a colored front sight insert put on the 2nd gen front sight blade like a S&W revolver, I did it with kit from Brownell's on my 459.

My gut feeling is that you can get away with it.
