Default Mystery mag

I picked this up at the LGS because it looked like an early S&W mag. However, its style is pre-3rd gen (by the baseplate), but it fits my 3913 fine. It has only 7 round capacity.

What was it made for? I've never seen a 3rd gen with a steel base plate, and the only 7 rounders I've seen are the short ones for the early 3913TSW models with the cut-out frame (and this is not one of these short mags, since it fits my 3913).

So, what is it for? Also, how the heck do you get the base plate off?!?

Looks like a model 39 series mag to me. Plastic follower indicates is not that old 30 years or less?
One of the tsw 3913s & 3953s were 7 shot, I would think the mag would fit any in the 39 series.

Timely thread!

When I opened my NIB 3954 one of these 7-round mags was in the box. At first I thought that someone had given me the wrong magazine. Then I saw this thread.

Fits nice and flush. I might be using this mag when carrying a 39XX sries pistol under a T-shirt.

OP, if you don't want that mag please PM me! Regards 18DAI

Cool! I never cared for mags with big bulky plastic base plates that seem to be popular now.

I recently lucked into a bunch of S&W stainless and blue steel flat mag base plates for double stack mags.
I never realized before how much they change the looks of the pistols!
I'll leave all my full size pistols flat bottomed, but my pinky goes wanting on the compacts.
And I won't be doing no "tactical mag drop drills" unless I have the plastic bottom mags in.
