4506 mags in 4516?
Yes? No? Maybe?
Looks like it ought to work the same as a 1911 mag in an Officer's Model, but...
And no, I have NO idea why I'm jonesing for a 4516 when it would really be filling the same spot in the carry duties that the 3953 is filling....

It might work, but it can over travel since its single stack. If you had a spacer to keep it from over traveling and locking up the pistol, it might make a good spare mag for carry.

I have a 4506-1 and 4516-1, the longer magazines works fine and don't seem to be any different than using an extended magazine in other semi-auto pistols like the 1911 or Glock.

+1 to Gunhacker. I too have both. The 4506-1 magazine just sticks out of the well of the 4516-1 just a little.

Any of the overtravel issues Shorty talks about? I know with the 1911s that if you slam the mag in like a Manly Man, of the Manly Man Persuasion, you can (potentially) push the mag up too far and jam things up.

I have heard of overtravel of a full size mag while being used in a compatable compact pistol, but IIRC it was with a 1911 pattern pistol. I've not seen or experienced it with a 3rd gen pistol.
I carried a full size 8 round mag as a reload for many years while carrying my 4516-3. Never experienced a problem or malfunction while using an 8-round mag in the 4516-3. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

Ditto to what 18DAI experienced, no problems.
I guess we all shouldn't be too surprised... after all, we're talking about guns that will feed empty cases without a complaint.
It looks like the ejector sticking out over the left side of magazine limits its travel.

No, because up to now I could at least tell myself that the lack of magazines was a good reason to not get/carry a 4516.
You have removed that excuse from my playlist.
Fortunately I can fall back on the "nobody's really making holsters for 'em any more" one.

Thanks 18DAI and Gunhacker. I'll need to start looking for some 4506 magazines.

Plenty of holsters still being made for them
Don't look now, but I might have just listed one in the classifieds.
