Default Can't be normal? 22A-1

I'd been thinking about getting a 22A since one of my shooting buddies won't sell me his 22A that he dislikes. So when PSA had them on closeout for $190, I jumped on one.

Got it in my grubby hands, looked good, pic:

Incredibly easy to field strip. Noticed what looked like a small step at top of feed ramp:

Also noticed a firing pin ding mark even though I did not dry fire the pistol.

Found a vid that showed a close up of the feed ramp and it didn't have that step, just smooth ramp all the way up into chamber. But he had just received his back from S&W for repairs on other issues, so didn't know if Smith had done ramp for him as long as they had it.

Reassembled pistol and hand cycled some rounds through it. All had a hesitation going into chamber, ding marks on bullet noses. One jammed the slide with the round left stuck horizontal. Damaged the tip of that round really bad, pic:

All bullets ended up loose in the cases, couple felt like they were getting to fall off. No good obviously. So popped off the barrel again and had at feed ramp with needle files and fine sandpaper. Also removed slight peen intrusion on chamber from firing pin ding mark, polished up chamber. Pic:

Reassembled, much better, all rounds cycled easily. So is that step at top of feed ramp normal or did a step get skipped at the factory?

Get it? I make punny.

My gun's feed ramp looks like yours does now. I'd say someone forgot to do that.

Mine looked like yours. I took a dremel with a wire brush bit and remove any paint off the ramp and smoothed out the machining grooves on the ramp with a fine grit sandpaper. Also, I removed paint on the slide where it came in contact with the frame. Before I did this, I had numerous failures to feed. Afterwards, it feeds flawlessly.
