Default Little help on a Smith 1911

I know my information is a little sketchy, but maybe you guys can help out anyway.

I looked at a used "Doug Koenig" named model 1911 this evening on consignment at my favorite store. It is a two tone 45 a c p that, from my limited experience seemed first class all the way. I know Koenig to be a well known shooter, but nothing about his gun choices. Does he use the S&W because of sponsorship, or because it is the best he can find ?

Is this series from S&W direct, or Koenig's shop or what? While I am not a fan of external extractors on the 1911s, all else seemed great
.I am not able to shoot it before purchase, but I believe $850.00 OTD to be an extra good price.

I know GI type 1911s a little bit, but not anything about the Smith semi-auto line up.

Hi rog,

Guess all the other PC 1911 types are off somewhere fishing this weekend Doug Koenig was one of the big name shooters on Team S&W and so naturally they put out a special signature edition gun 'designed' by him. As to whether he thinks Smith 1911's are the best there is or they just made him the best contract offer, you'd have to ask him, but the fact remains he's had a long relationship with the company. The gun itself came in two versions, the Performance Center gun, DK PC 1911-2 on the bottom in the photo, and the standard version DK PC 1911 on top. Here are mine:

Based on the price you mentioned, I'm guessing you're looking at the non-PC gun, and that's a good price for it. If its for the PC gun, go over there tonight and wake him up to make the sale NOW. They are both really fine guns, and both are solely S&W products, the PC version just has more hands on work by the craftsmen in the Performance Center. Either way, buy the gun.

Bill

That is a very good price for one of those guns regardless of model. The main features of the Koenig guns are the straight trigger and ultra light Koenig hammer. I'm not a fan of the trigger and prefer square cut grips on guns with magwells but these things can easily be changed.

Life is short buy the gun. I'd be there with donuts and coffee waiting for him to unlock. Then give him that great news that your gonna buy the DK for $800 out the door. The most he can say is no and you steal the DK for $850. Best of luck and hope you get it.

Thanks guys. As wlp624 says, it is the lesser expensive of the two Doug Koenig models with, box and all documents. One extra mag.

I handled it a bit more last night, and as I mentioned, it is a consignment, so I asked the shop to have the owner call me.

We shall see how badly he wants to get rid of it, compared to how badly I want it.

Time for an update. I bought the pistol tonight after being unable to be in touch with the owner (it is consigned) since I last asked you guys for help. The price I paid is $800.00 all in.
I also found out, while it is indeed "used" the guy I bought it from bought it new, and never shot it. True or not, it matters little, because the condition certainly is "as new".
Thanks again for your responses. I am going to start a new thread in this same sub-forum asking for a little "schooling" on the S&W 1911.
