Model 6590
I would like some opinions on this pistol and an estimate on value if possible. I bought this pistol in the early 1990's new because it was a 15 shot. I usually favor revolvers but I wanted a high capacity gun of some kind. I have the box with the accessories. It's been shot very little. Thanks, in advance.

Rarely seen a transitional like that. It looks like a remaining 659 slide, based on the integrarl front sight blade, put onto a new (but early) 3rd Gen frame.

Last RSR 6590 I saw was around $1000+. RSR is kinda like TALO so these were done for them. Don't see many come up for sale. If you have the original box that adds value of course.

Any magazine for the 59xx should work, but I've been wrong before.

Smith & Wesson never wasted a thing. My 6590 is on an early Gen 3 frame, that is stamped MOD 659. The slide is a Gen 3 fixed sight and dovetailed front sight, gen 3 ambi safety/decocker. The box is correctly serial number to the gun but lists the model as 6590.

Hey bodyarmorguy, the 659 you have is not an RSR "transitional", the RSR models all carry an RSR serial prefix, and are stamped 6590. They were actually made in 1991, I believe, much later than the introduction of the 5906. Yours is a true transitional, or "interim" model, which were all built/shipped in late 1988, and are all stamped 659 on the frame, even though the box is labeled 6590. It appears some have second gen ambi safeties, and some have third gen, but they all feature third gen dovetailed front sights. Purportedly only around 150 were built, I own four of them, and they all have second gen ambi safeties, even though the serial numbers on mine are earlier and later than yours, although I have seen them both ways. They also all have the TBU, TBV, and TBW prefix, and possibly TBY, though I haven't seen one yet. Here's the flyer....and all share the same spec ord numder of 1408 on the box label, and notice the product code of 104001, you can look that up in the SCSW under model 659....

I should also note the things to look for besides the model number 659 on the frame, are the red dot safety off indicator is on the slide, a la second gen, not the frame, and the unique shape of the magazine release, which is not interchangeable with either the second gen 659, or the third gen 5906, and they also have the half cock feature, and wide trigger, although the very early 5906 models sometimes have the wide trigger and half cock.

Mod 6590 value
I have a mod 6590 that I purchased back in 1990 while attending the police academy. I am the original owner and haven't shot it in many years. I would say i have not fired more than 150 rounds through it. It's never been dropped and I would say it's in excellent condition. I have the original box and the 2 magazines it came with. I'm not really interested in selling it but just looking for a value. In my opinion I would call this make and model a true collectors item with it being a limited edition model. I would appreciate any feedback on this firearm and thank you for all the info I've read in the 6590 thread.

Very nice!! There were 741 units produced of the 6590 RSR2001-RSR2741. They also made a model 6591 & 6592. I have all 3. Definitely a nice addition to a 3rd gen collection.
Cheers!!!

A friend inherited this gun from her husband and I am helping her sell. It is new in box, never fired. What would today's value be on it? Having a hard time as they seldom are up for sale.
