Default Magazine Springs

I'm looking for a bulk purchase of 3913 magazine springs. Wolff has them, but in +5 and +10% values. I don't know if there any advantage to either of those.

Also, has anyone ordered or tried to order factory springs directly from S&W? Brownells and Midway seem to be out of stock.

They were in stock at Midway recently so I would assume that your chances are good with S&W right now. Give them a call and see what they say, if you want to go with factory.

I've only used Wolff in a few of my mags so far, but no problems at all. They are cheaper than S&W if you buy them in the 10-packs too, which was the selling point for me.

*Forgot to say that I think the extra power springs would be good in shorter-cycling guns like the CS9 and 4040PD. Basing this off of some advice of Fastbolt on the CS9 and my own experiences with used 4040 mags not locking the slide back.

I have enough magazines that I'd need a ten pack... to start. I was in a LGS yesterday on other business and noticed that they had two used 3913 magazines for $25.00 each. I hear them faintly calling my name, so I might cruise over there later in the week and get them just to have them.

I don't know why Wolff has to increase the magazine spring weight? I'd rather just by factory weights, but I found myself in your shoes and will likely again in the near future. I bought a couple Wolff +5% magazine springs recently because I couldn't find them from the usual suspects. So far they are working without issue.

If you pass on those 3913 mags, I would be interested in them.....of all the 3rd. gen mags the 3913 mags seem to be the scarcest and for the most part the priciest ...I have been lucky enough to stock up on 4506,4516,and 6906 mags....the single stack 9's have been elusive at best.....TercGen is right about Midway last week had factory springs and I stocked up....which when everyone does causes the shortages....they had some recoil springs too

Which makes no sense to me as the single stack compacts are very popular. I'm surprised the MecGar doesn't make the magazines. They'd be as good as the OEM magazines given that they probably made them for S&W in the first place.

I also wish that Mec-Gar had made magazines for the 3rd gen single stacks, as well as a hi-cap mag for the 4006 family.

I usually order mag springs for my 3913, CS9 & 4040PD from S&W, and usually order them 6-10 at a time. Nice round numbers. Sometimes I've thought I ought to simply order 25 at a time, though. (I have an abundance of 7 & 8-rd mags for the CS9 & 3913.)

The mag springs seem to last longer in my 9's than in my 4040, meaning I may start to experience signs of weakening mag springs in my 4040 mags if I wait as long for replacement in them as I do with my 7 & 8-rd 9mm mags.

I often use the excellent products made by Wolff Company, but I prefer S&W factory mag springs for my single stack 3rd gen 9's and .45's. That's just based on having used both in different guns over the years.

I think it was before the Wolff website was listing a clear difference between the 2 mags springs offered for 3913's that I ordered their single stack 9 springs to try, so it's been a while.

The first type didn't offer reliable feeding in my 3913. The next type did, but the springs didn't offer any apparent increase in service life, nor was there any apparent change in either felt recoil or normal functioning. (I don't remember which was which, and it was a long time ago.)

The factory springs cost less, which can matter a little bit if I'm replacing both of them on the same interval. They've always offered me reliable feeding with any of the standard pressure , +P and +P+ loads I've used, too, so I have no reason not to use the factory springs.

I've always had good experience with Wolff springs in my 1911's & double stack 3rd gen 9 mags. I'd still be using their 6906 & 5906 +5% mag springs if I was still carrying either of those guns.

Fastbolt, how much are you paying through S&W for 3913 mag springs? Midway has them for $6 each and I always assumed that was close to factory direct pricing, but in the 10-packs, Wolff sells them for $4.80 a piece.

That's been the deciding factor for me since noticing it, but so far I have only tried their .45 mag springs (with success). Unless it's cheaper from the factory, I plan on ordering a 10-pack of 3913 Wolff's in the near future and trying them out with my CS9 and 4040 mags.

I grabbed an extra magazine for the 3914 I bought at the gun show, but I didn't notice then it's a (7) shot mag for the 3913TSW so I can't use it. It's brand new & I'm going to sell it for what I paid for it, $35, here in case anyone needs one. S&W shows out-of-stock & they're almost $42. PN# 262800000. PM me.

As an armorer, I get them for a 26% discount off whatever the current retail might be (was $5.40, last time I looked).

That's a nice perk!

Thank you for the price check as well; my only time ordering through S&W, the rep didn't mention any prices until the final cost with shipping (which seemed fair). I have a few Pistol Parts Lists from 2008 & 2009, but nothing later. Seems the prices on these mag springs haven't changed since then, at least.
