Picked up a very nice 3914 today in original box.

Can anyone help decipher the ship date?

If you have the box, look at the Spec Order code. It should be a four digit number. The first digit is the year. The only problem is that it only gives you the last digit of the year. "5" could be 1985, 1995, or 2005. Clues to narrow that down would be knowing the years a model was in production. I think the 3914 was 1992-95.

The last three digits are the Julian date, starting at 001 and going to 365 (366 in a leap year).

half-lug I can offer an educated guess of 1989. To find out for sure, call S&W customer service and tell them your serial number. they will usually tell you the date it shipped.

Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

OP, that's not a correct serial number. It should be 3 letters, not 2. Could it be "VEI" instead?

Like 18DAI said, probably early/mid 1989. My TEC47xx was made in Oct-1989, so IF they went in numerical order, your's has seniority over mine at the range.

Hope you enjoy it!

You are of course , correct. The serial should read VED11XX and based on the special order number shipped on 8/25/19 (19 yrs ago, yesterday) based on the astute observations of JohnHL.
