Default 3913 friend to friend sale ?????

Having dinner with some shooting buddies last night....... conversation floating all over the place ...... and one guy mentions that he has a 20+ year old 3913 that's been in his safe for 19+ years.

He bought it for his wife.... but after a few sessions ...... she decided she didn't like the double/single action trigger....... cleaned it up boxed it up and it's been in the safe ever since.....

Got one of those "your a friend, make me an offer......." offers.....LOL

I have absolutely no "need" for another 3913/14 pattern auto......

I laughed and offered him original MSRP for it ........ he laughed...... I told him he could get as much as $600 for it on line......he laughed.........and said " I'll sell it to a friend..... otherwise "it can just stay in the safe."...... make me an offer!

Guess what this has been bugging me for the past.......18hours.......

So what is a good "friend to friend " sale price?

3913: all silver, 2mags, box/docs........ 100-150 rounds through it......

$400 or whatever you have in your pocket. I wouldn't go over 500, though.

I agree. Between 400 and 500 works. 350 works better but good luck with that!

$400 is fair. Maybe $425 if it's in great condition.

ETA:Unless it's a Lady Smith or Tactical version, then $500 is not out of bounds.

If it's ANIB (except for the rounds his wife shot through it), I'd say that a fair retail price would be around $450.00 or so. A fair price for both of you would be $400.00. He gets $400.00 for something he doesn't use and you get a good deal for something you want, even if you don't "need" it.

Then again, when did "need" ever have anything to do with accumulating 3rd generation guns?

I have tried to sell two S&W 3913 pistols in the past three years, both priced below what most sold for on auction sites. I wound up trading both of them for Glocks, which I still own. The 3913/3914 pistols appear to be highly sought after but I could not get the current cash value for either of them.

I would not put more than $325.00 in a 3913/3914. Magazines have gotten pricey, the model is out of production.

Some people just want shooters. Local dealer had several 3913s for $269 but with only one mag (and I hate the ambi lever) I let them sit for someone else.

Yes, I could not get $450.00 out of this entire package a few years ago, traded it for another pistol and broke even.

I think prices vary, maybe even widely, based on a number of factors. Since generally 3rd gen guns can not be transferred into MA, they go for more than in other areas.

Of course some variations are more rare and desirable and go for higher prices. TSW guns are one example.

Other guns might be more common and go for less. A regular 3913 is an example.

I buy all of my guns as a shooters, so I don't care too much about box, papers, and so on. I care that they function properly and are reliable.

That's funny....I sold two Glocks and bought a 3913.

Default Friend?

I'd go buy one for about 375.00,and show him the street value of his prize.Just today I talked to Smith &Wesson and they are no longer in the catalog my model 908 is still made for certain depts.as backup weapons NYPD still uses them as undercover weapons.Mine was made in 1999 and Penny at S&W told me they still have parts and any S&W made after 1989 is still coveted by warranty and call if I ever had a problem. Blew me away.

I traded this S&W 3913 and a spare mag for a NIB Glock 31, which will be my son's birthday present in a few months.

Around my neck of the woods, no one's really interested in the old Smiths from what I can tell. They mostly sit around on shelves and collect dust. It's really only worth what someone will pay for it, and right now the plastic guns are all the rage.

I'm in "your neck of the woods"....in fact, we even belonged to the same gun club, and I'm definitely interested in old Smiths. I recently bought a 3913. I like what I like, and really don't care what "all the rage" is right now. No offense intended, but I know plenty of people in this area (some are members here too) that are into "old Smiths".

Maybe it's just me but a nice 3913 with both mags is a $400 gun. I guess I'm in the wrong neck of the woods as I don't see them around here much. But it's true that they don't appeal to all. I would only take a Glock if it was given to me so to each their own.

If he's REALLY a good friend he'll sell it to you for $1!

Good guns are like kids sometimes. You'd rather have them go to a good home and don't really care about getting a lot of money for them.

Hypothetically speaking, of course. I, personally, would NEVER sell my children!

P.S. Send me a PM and I'll send pix of them!

P.S.P.S. Really, I'm just kidding.

Yeah, but..."plenty of people" are only a drop in the ocean compared to what everyone else is buying. Otherwise, these guns wouldn't sit on shelves for so long. The local 3913 I looked at had been on the shelf for 2 years. Glocks, Springfields and M&P Smiths move in and out constantly.

When I bought my 5906 and 6926 in Nedrow, the guy was more than willing to negotiate the price. Most likely because they'd been there for so long. Whenever I post up a picture of my latest 2nd/3rd gen acquisition on a local forum, it'll barely get a response. But if I throw up a picture of my G36, responses are immediate and on-going.

$425 - $450 friend to friend, LNIB would be an easy for profit sell at $475-$500; but if you don't need another, then I would spend the money elsewhere.

There is one 9mm polymer pistol in my safe, a SIG SP2022. When the dust settles on some recent purchases a 3913 is likely next. Why? Because it's a Smith & Wesson. And because it's metal.......

Summa usns jus' beez dat weigh 'bout metal gunz.....

You should post the local dealer here. I'm pretty sure those $269 guns would not last long.

The S&W 908 is a fine pistol. This one belongs to my brother.

This was mine, sold to buy my first 3913; a true mistake.

Both of them.

I discovered the 3953 in a trade with a forum member. It is far superior to the other models mentioned.

A 3913NL and 5906 were at my lgs just few days ago. Priced $399 and $329 respectively. Both gone today. 3rd Gens might move slow in some places, but not in my AO.

I hate the ambi lever, too, so I have 3 Lady Smiths. They seem to start about $425 at auction, with the standard 3913 being about $25-$50 less.

Default single stack 9mm

Not knocking KelTecs and the other newer single stackers, but I. can't see how anything made lately can stand up to any of the S&W 3rd gen pistols.I find myself on a nonstop qwest for the all metal single stackets, and my wife loves them too.How can I be wrong.

Thanks for the input guys....for now..... I think I'm going to pass; but as he really isn't looking to sell I'll try to get the " right of first refusal" if he decides to sell in the future.

I did a 3913/14 inventory.......

I have my original 1st year production 3913 with a 5906 hammer and rubber Hogue grips.

also two 3914s with Hogue checkered wood grips and

three 3913NLs; one is my everyday carry. So I have a back up and a back up to my back up!! All with Hogue checkered wood grips.*

So for the 3913/14 series I think I'm covered .................for now!!!!!!!!

*I discovered the "Hogue Auction" site shortly after they set it up. At the time I think they had "years" worth of "seconds" they were trying to clear out.

Hogue QC was and is very high.... and I was able to get a number of sets of grips for guns.... cheap; and frankly .......on most I never could figure out the issue.
