New to me. A pair of 559
I saw this pair for sale and thought they should stay together, so I bought them both. Build quantities were quite low. The blued version had a total of 8973 pcs. built the nickel model 1636 pcs. About 85% of those were built in 1982. The all carbon steel slide and frame makes for a heavy handgun by today standards. The nice thing about that is when you run out of ammo, these can be used as a club.

[IMG] [/IMG] Nice find on the double I have thought about getting a blues one also or a 539 ,here's mine it's nib and spare magazine has never even been unwrapped.I bought this one about 4 years ago from an elderly gentleman I had met at a gunshow for 400 dollars and you are correct it's a heck of a heavy pistol if you had to pistol whip someone.

THAT is way cool! I have a blued 559.. never saw a nickeled one. I have a nickeled 459... it and the 39-2 are the only nickeled guns that I like the look of.
I love the added weight, makes shooting the +P stuff easier to handle, which the 559 fully up to the task of shooting.

Cool score !
I picked up a blued 559 last month, never seen a nickle one.
I did have a 659 back in the 80's.
The steel frames are tanks, and yes it would make a fine club.

waffenmac thats a nice one. My supposedly had not been fired. I had planned on buying just the nickel one but the blued one , wouldn't let go of my hand, so he had to go with me. They both came with the S&W boxes and 2 magazines. I Probably payed all the money (just north of a $1000). I'm sure you guys know when you want something and you just have to have it, what's a hundred or two here or there.

Great find! I have a blue 559....shoots NATO stuff with very little muzzle flip. Mine is one of about 200 that was built with the 39-2 long extractor. In a short time I will be reaquiring a 539 that I bought new in 1983.
Enjoy them! Rugged pistols.

Yes we all over pay at one time or another but I feel like that's not the case with what you paid. I have seen some nice examples go for north of 600 and your two are definitely in that category.

A little research herewith:
The 559 was discontinued in October 1982 after 10,609 total units: 8,973 in blue finish and 1,636 in nickel.
I've got three blues and one nickel - the latter the first and only nickel 559 I've actually held. The only shot it's ever fired was the one whose spent shell is accompanying it in the box.
They don't photograph well, because they sure look prettier to me when "live."

I'm not going to shoot the nickel one. Mine supposedly has not been shot but I can't prove that. I am tempted to try out the blued one. Next on my list is to find an unfired or "close to" 659.
