Default Safe Queens.

I don't really have any but I have a line on a 4505. I don't have the funds so I'd have to try and work a trade which in truth I don't think the seller will accept but if he did I think I'd have a hard time shooting it. Am I alone in thinking that it should make it a safe queen (if I can acquire it)?

I'd shoot it. Clean it carefully & meticulously after & safe it...

I do have a couple that look NIB due to not using them often,
but they are TOOLS and always believed they should be thought of as such

You have to ask yourself, would John Wayne shoot it??
Yer dang skippy he would

B'sides, if it ain't worth over 5 grand, and there aren't less than 500 of 'em...
might as well enjoy 'em!!

Much like driving a 1968 Mustang GT 500KR convertible (Blue with Yellow stripes)...
stays in the garage, clean, waxed, and covered, but occasionally you
just gotta do the right thing and drop the pedal to remind everyone
what a REAL car sounds & looks like

You won't get the right answer to your question here .Some will say safe it,while others would encourage you to shoot it.The shoot it crowd view all guns as tools, while the collectors view them as objects no longer made worth preserving.Ten years from now do you want a shooter grade worn gun, or a nicely preserved piece of Smith & Wesson history in your collection.

I have two 4506-1s so I'd probably stick it in the back of the safe. Don't think I have anything appealing to offer the seller so will wait and see what happens.

I recently picked up a new condition 4505 in a trade and it's sat in my safe since I brought it home and I have no intention of shooting it.
but..
the shooters here will say shoot it the collectors will say don't shoot it.
I say if you get it that it's your gun so do what you please with it.

This and this. Shooters will always say shoot it... collectors will always say preserve it.

The nicer the condition it is in, the more inclined I would be to preserve it.

If you are buying it 'cause you like it and not as a potential investment then ask yourself this question...

Do I want to go to my grave and let someone else shoot it?

You can shoot it AND have it still look NIB...it's now just ANIB!

What are these "safe queens" of which you speak?
I hear the words, but they don't register.
I shoot 'em all. I'll let my descendants worry about resale value.
Their value to me is how they shoot, and how much I like them.
I'd buy it and shoot the hell out of it.
That's my take.

I see no problem in shooting the gun . What beats the heck out of them is every day carry, in and out of the holster and banging into things. I picked up a very nice CS9 for EDC , after a few months I could see the wear on it. So I picked up a Shield 9 to beat the heck out of . If they still made the CS9 it would be no big deal. I still love shooting the CS it just don't travel with me now. Just a side the finish on the Shield is as tough as nails and the poly frame shows no wear so I guess poly pistols are better for carry.
