What 3rd gen(s) do you carry.
I'm betting a lot of 3913/14's and a few 4513's but thought it would be neat to see what people carry.
Mines is a Shorty 45 MK2 with a 4567 as a sometime cold weather carry gun. Hoping to have 3913 before to long as well.

The pistol I usually carry in the woods is a 1076. It's an Auburn Hills, MI PD trade-in. It's loaded with a 200gr XTP in front of a healthy dose of Longshot. IIRC, it chrono'd out at 1170 fps.

You are correct sir- 3913. Almost perfect.
I have a CS9 that I picked up recently, thinking it would replace the 3913, but for some reason, it just doesn't feel "right" to me. It 's accurate, but doesn't fit my hand like the 3913.
My 5906 gets a lot of range time, but only is carried occasionally. I usually figure that if I feel the need to take, I should cancel my plans! It is a nice option, though.

At one time or another I've carried a 5903, 6906, 3913, CS9, CS45, 4513TSW (both original and current models), 4013TSW, 4040PD, 3913TSW & a 4566TSW. Used others as an instructor.
I usually prefer to carry something smaller & lighter as a daily retirement weapon (J-frame or a LCP), but when it comes to belt gun time, when I'm not carrying a G26, G27, M&P 40c or a SW9940, I'll still belt on the 3913, CS9, CS45, original 4513TSW or a 3913TSW. My SW999c, M&P 45 and 1911's see less carry time nowadays, even though I enjoy shooting them quite a bit. Go figure.
Recently, I decided to bring the 4013TSW back online as a training & carry choice.
I could easily winnow it down to 1 or 2 choices, but I bought more guns than I needed as a younger cop & armorer.

You don't exactly have to be Carnac the Great to know the answer.
3913TSW (pre rail) most of the time. Occasionally a later production 3913 CA DOC trade in. Once in a while my 3914NL. If I'm in a .45ACP mood, a S&W 457.

I'm ashamed to say I don't carry any of my 3rd Gens. I just treasure them too much. I have been a little more tempted here lately, though. Usually it's the 40 Shield or 40C. I've been thinking about my 4513TSW pre-rail, or maybe one of my 4013TSW's. I know, I know, life is short...we'll see.

I'm a little like Timn8er. I don't carry any of the five 3rd Gens that I own (4506, 4566, 4516, 4006, 5906). However, they do see range time. Once in a while I open carry my 4506 while doing some light hiking or fishing in the mountains. However that job is usually given to my Md 681.

I carried a 457 for a number of years until I picked up 3953 back in the spring. Now I just can't seem to put it down.

In third gens, of course, the 3914 and sometimes a 4516, and some other times, a 1066, and at other times a 1076.
And sometimes a 19-3.
Mostly depends on what goes best with my shoes

Most definitely! I may not carry them, but I will carry them to the range. No safe queens, though there are one or two that don't go quite as often as the others, as I'm trying to maintain their pristine quality. They do get shot, though!

Started with a Model 36 J-frame, then to a 3913, then a 3913TSW non rail, and now gradually weening to a M&P Shield 9. Saving the 3rd gens for the range and household duties.

Glad to see I am not the only one who treasures his beloved 3rd Gens way too much to carry them. But if I had to choose one of them, it would probably be my CS40, simply because it is the runt of my litter (cosmetic condition-wise) and yet still perfectly capable.
Truth is that I am not a daily carry guy and haven't been for a very long time now. But when I was, the carry piece always fit the perceived threat... meaning it could have been everything from my Beretta 950BS in my pocket up to a hand cannon in a shoulder rig. That's the joy of having many choices.

I recently acquired my first 3rd gen, a 915. It's got some wear on it, so I don't mind banging it around. I've carried it quite a bit since the temperatures dropped. I really like the feel of that gun.

None.
Don't you know 3rd gen Smiths are inaccurate jamomatics?
(Never mind the countless tests by LE agencies that prove otherwise)
Don't believe me?
Just ask the (c)rappers and the arfcommers. They'll tell you the only pistol worth owning is a Glock.
I don't carry mine, yet. I have to shoot them enough to prove them. I also have to get concealment holsters for them. Thinking the 6906 is a good candidate.

I've carried my 6906, but not often. The reason for that is I always carry an extra magazine and with the 6906, that's a lot of weight.
I don't carry the magazine because I think I'll need that many shots. I carry it just in case something happens and I have to swap magazines for any reason.
If I lived somewhere that open carry was an option, I'd probably carry the 6906. Not because I'm a big fan of open carry, but it's a bit harder to conceal than a 3913 and I don't want to have to worry about printing.
If that makes sense.

4516 no dash. And sometimes a 3914.
Both are thin, easily concealed, bet your life reliable and accurate. The 4516 no dash gets carried most. Probably be the one gun I keep in retirement.
No tupperware for me. Bad experience with it as a child. Regards 18DAI

Started with my 3913 in the summer then in winter it was a 4566 or kimber. Now I carry a 4026 year round with a keltech 380 in my pocket for back up. I was so anti-40 cal because all I've ever shot was glocks in 40 cal and I hated them. Shooting the all steel 4026 is totally different that the Glocks.

I've gone back to carrying revolvers the past few months. I own a 3913 but when I carried a semi-auto it was a 457S. I like it so much that I bought a plain 457 to keep it company.

Agreed. That's how they shoulda come from the factory, with an option to buy Hogue's later, not the other way around!

So true. Yet another logic-defying S&W mystery. Why did they decide to sell their smallest, most concealable 3rd Gen carry guns with crazy thick, overly-large, mushy rubber grips on them? It defies all design & marketing wisdom and simple common sense.
I'd give almost anything to get a nice set of Big Dogs for my CS9 and CS40.

I carry every day, I always have a gun with me. the 3 that get carried the most are a 3913nl, CS9 and a Shield 9mm. Now that winter is here I'll coat pocket carry my 360PD with one of the other 3 in there IWB holster. I find it a lot easier to get the 360 in play than get to the holster.
I must be the only one who likes the stock grips on the CS9. I find it a joy to shoot compared to the Shield. Here's some pictures.

Since 1990 some version of the 3913/14 has been my daily carry.................. +90% of the time
Most often it is an early 3913NL with Hogue checkered wood grips.......and flush fit (steel base plate) 7 round magazine...... and an extra 8 round magazine.
Winter/cool weather often sees a 3914 with Hogue checkered wood grips come out of the safe.
If I want a higher round count I will go to a Performance Center 9mm built on a 6906 frame w/ a 6904 slide...... reverse two-tone...... backed up with a 5906 magazine with a +2 grip adapter..28 rounds
The key to carrying a 3rd generation Smith ......... is to have at least one back up to your carry gun..........LOL

After previously testifying, today, just to be different , I'm wearing a CS45 on my belt. It's winter here, and even the squirrels have a heavy coat !

One of my 4506-1's on the right side, IWB and two spare mags on the left. Not in the least uncomfortable, and quite easy to tuck away. Plus, you couldn't have a more reassuring tool at your side!
