Default 4013 TSW question

I have 3913 and 4553 pre-rail TSW model pistols.

I am considering a 4013 TSW pre--rail - why is the tang full size on this compact model while shortened on the 3913 and 4553?

Is the pre -rail 4013TSW sought after 3rd generations or largely neutral?

Thanks!

Did you mean tang?

I don't know why other than it's the same as the 4013 non-TSW.

The 4553 is a DAO gun & they always(?) have the short tang because the slide is longer to conceal the (pre-cocked) hammer.

.

4013TSW & 4056TSW (non-rail)

.

4013 & 4043

For goodness sakes.

Your pics sent me running for the Plain Jane and TSW 40's in my collection and, sure 'nuff, my tangs are different, too.

Hadn't noticed until now.

Cool.

And what a coincidence! I had just checked my brain the other day and it still was at 90-percent empty!

Never noticed either and I have a 4013tsw pre-rail, my only guess woud be for a better feel on the recoil with the longer tail. IMO these are sought after and I'm glad I picked mine up for a steal. All I see is the price keeps going up on these and this is usually my edc and it shoots great.

I can only speak for my area (MA) and the guns I've followed. I'd have to say that any pre-rail TSW in decent condition and offered at a near-reasonable price is always going to be very desirable. The cleaner, the better... of course. The few I've seen linger had "issues" that would slow down any potential buyer. But eventually, they all sold at what I consider a pretty healthy price... certainly no "bargains"... and generally a bit above their non-TSW versions for equal condition.

The .40's (all of them) seem to hang around a while longer only because some who collect (or "accumulate") 3rd Gens don't shoot that caliber. That said, it doesn't seem to greatly affect asking or selling prices.

I'm up to nine 3rd Gens so far and I've still not been able to snag my first "TSW", pre-rail or post-rail. Asking prices have always been just a bit outside my normal reach. And as mentioned earlier, some had "issues" that I just couldn't live with.

Not easy to find TSWs, and most have lots and lots of holster wear. The pre rails are really rare and get snagged up very quickly. The Shorty 40 performance center models are just a little more then the standard TSW 40 and a better choice IMO.

Oddly enough, in my quest I have come across a whole lot more pre-rail TSWs than post-rails. Can't explain that. But yes, you are right: holster wear often seems to be worse on laser-marked 3rd Gens than roll-marked 3rd Gens. Might be that they all get carried & used about the same but it is safer & easier to "clean up" a roll-marked slide or frame than to take a chance on messing up a laser-marked gun.

Just my observational theory... and probably all wrong.

I'd love a Shorty, but they are extremely rare and costly in crazy restricted Massachusetts. I think the chances of me ever finding one that I can afford are about one in a thousand or less.

The tang is the same size from the web of grip. The doa gun just looks shorter because there is more meat on the top side as the slide is longer.
