Default Am I nuts to buy ....

What do you pros think? I am thinking of buying an old 45xx just to get the good old parts as part of a project to customize a LE 4566TSW. Some of the 4566TSW parts are black and plastic. Even the grip pin needed replacement. Some of the parts are available at Numric, but not all. If I can convince myself (with your help) to buy this spare pistol for parts, I would attempt to sell the bare slide and frame. So what do you think?

I'm sure no expert but IMHO it depends on how much your donor gun will cost. I have three 3rd Gens in .45 and I've thought about the same thing as you. But the guns I've seen that would fit my criteria (ie "beaters") cost way more than I'm willing to pay. It seems that really ****** looking shooter grade guns cost more than half the price of a good one. I'd rather pay the other 50% and get another good one.

just have the parts you want black refinish in birdsong black-T

You don't need any justification for a second 4566, but you should get one anyways if you find a good deal on one that meets your price/conditionrequirements.
