Default 1rst generation extractor question

It's my understanding from some research here that the 39 (no dash) models were prone to extractor failure and that issue was worked out with the 39-2. Does this described extactor problem also exist with pre-39 models?

thank you in advance. I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on one of these.

They are exactly the same, so the "problems" are the same.
