6906 BDX s/n - late production?
I've recently acquired 2 "new" 6906's. One is a run-of-the-mill "TZP" serial number, apparently an early production unit that someone modified with the 5906 hammer. I thought I'd like this one more than I do but the modded hammer gave the trigger pull a "hitch" where it half-cocks and isn't nearly as smooth as the later, unmodifed, weapon.
The question I have is about the other weapon, with s/n BDX35xx. This seems to be a former California Dept of Corrections weapon, based on the inventory control numbers etched and stamped on the right side. It is in excellent shape. It does not appear in the SCSW, but other threads here indcate BDX31xx shipped in November of 2006.
So, the question is - if production of the 6906 stopped in 1999, does anyone know if these were stockpiled from 1999 until 2006, or were they a special production run for then CA Dept of Corrections?
Thanks for any help.

I have a 3913 and a 3913LS. I haven't actually made the physical comparison between a 3913 and a 6906 yet, but first visual impressions suggest the 6906 to be a double stack 3913.

Basicly the only difference 39xx guns are single stack [8+1] while 69xx guns are double stack 12+1

My understanding was that SW would make pretty much any of the 3rd gen pistols as late as 201x if they had a minimum order contract esp to LE.
I kind of doubt it was a pre 1999 pistol that sat in inventory as my understanding is SN were stamped on frame as frame was produced not later at assembly.
Also the matching slide/frame/barrel markings make it a LE contract most likely.
If you really want production date email or call SW - with model and full SN they will provide “manufacture” date.
But in my observation most of the Bxx range from 2004-2010.
As to SCSW prefix listings, they are largely compiled from observation including inputs from this forum. As such they are incomplete and many prefixes may bridge multiple years. For example I have 2 VJP, a 6946 VJP358x dated by SW as Jan 1998 and the 5946 VJP356x dated by SW as May 2009

The SCSW shows to production runs in 2006. It doesn't say who they were made for, but the product codes are 150151 and 150167. Both have the notation "S F Special".
Mine is a police trade in made in 1993. Product code is 108211.

It's marked on the barrel, slide and frame exactly like one somewhere on here that (if I recall right) was verified a California DOC gun.
This one is my sweet spot for these guns, small sights and round trigger guard. I'd take a closet full of them.

I had a nice DOC marked 3913 which I sold to someone as I had "too many" 3913s at the time. It too was marked on the slide, barrel, and frame with a letter followed by three numbers. I don't think I have any pictures of it, but I might.

There seem to be at least 4 varieties of match marked frame. slide, barrel.
1. Single alpha character plus 4 digits, D plus 4 digits (early CHP 4006TSW) with standard S/N prefixes not matched to match markings. Also 4006 Axxxx & Bxxxx and 6906 Axxxx. Also 4013TSW Sxxxx and Txxxx
2. Agency prefix plus 3 to 4 digits not matched to standard S/N - ex NPDxxx and NPDxxxx. Also MPDxxxx (Memphis PD)
3. Full S/N frame, slide, barrel right side matching standard S/N left side examples Nevada P&P VDKxxxx & VKMxxxx.
4. single alpla plus last 4 digits of s/n - Exxxx matching CHP 4006 s/n CHPxxxx.
