Hey, thanks for the thoughts. That lead me to a solution, (albeit a bit expensive for the want of a simple friggen tiny lil friggen screw).
I did find a couple of used Model 41 rear sights on fee-bay. But not for my style of 41. HOWEVER, there was one brand new NOS rear sight for a Model 52 (thanks for the lead 824tsv and civil1977). And a bit of research did show all the bits/pieces of that sight had the same basic part numbers as the Model 41 sight.
It now resides in my hot little hand. Not cheap at ~$195 with the shipping, but I have it. It's new. 10 year search, over. I can live with the price. But now I need to get the gun refinished as the scum, sub human, ***, trash, punk thug that had it didn't treat it very well. (Gee, imagine that.)
Anyway...
It seems, that from close scrutiny of my original that somehow that elevation screw is supposed to be "retained" in the top part of the sight. Ok, that makes sense. That way the screw doesn't get lost if it gets loose. (I still can't understand how EVERY SINGLE ONE of these screws that any gun parts supplier had has been consumed. How do you friggen lose this screw???) Anyway, there is evidence that the elevation screw got "force unscrewed" out of the top part of the sight. (I could see some residue of threads that were "cut" into the hole in the top part of the sight, and some pushing out of metal around the top of the hole.) So, I was having a hard time figuring out what thread/size the screw was supposed to be (I had resigned myself to "making" a new screw). A a 6-32 didn't go cleanly through the hole and a 4-40 was too small and didn't grab the threads of the nut in the base of the sight. And I would have had to dress that wound before the sight would be useable again, even if I had found/made a screw for it.
But now, I don't need to worry about any of that.
Thanks again,
Karl M.
