Default 4516-1 Slide Stop

Bought on GB what turned out to be a very nice, slightly used 4516-1. I say very nice because upon field striping before test firing, noticed that the frame rails showed very little wear. The exterior had only one slight mark made by the slide stop. No rubs scrapes or any marks. The only problem was the slide stop plunger was broken. Have you looked for one of these lately? Bought a slide stop assembly from Numrich on the 4516-1 schematic that turned out to be for a newer model, the older slide stops and safety levers were flatter. So, I made a plunger on a drill press with files. Base stock came from a piece of file handle. It took about an hour to make the part and two hours to find the little split pin when it jumped out during assembly.

Congrats on your 4516-1!

Nice job fabricating the replacement part. Enjoy that fine 45! Regards 18DAI

My hat is off to you for being able to work on those small parts. A few years ago I dropped the slide stop from a 457S on a tile floor and the whole thing exploded into its component parts. I found the parts but didn't attempt to put them back together because I figured that something had to be defective. S&W messed me around for 4 months saying it was a back ordered part. Finally I had to send the whole gun in and they installed a new slide stop. I did find and order a used slide stop prior to sending the gun in to the factory but it was a blued model and mine was a stainless gun.

The Plunger on the left is the one I made. That would be the bottom one, the picture rotated.

That's some very fine lathe work, with a drill press and files. Nice job.
