Default 3rd Gen 9mm Single Stacks- Air Lite / Air Weight?

Thank you in advance for your patience. I am a long time lurker here... and have tried both the Google and Forum specific searches and was not able to find the answer. Forgive me if I missed something...

I am interested in the compact 9mm single stack 3rd gen S&W autos. ( I currently have a 1026, 642, M&P Shield, M&P 9 )

I have been looking at the 3913 (in its variants) and the 3914 as well as the CS9. Looking to augment / replace my 9mm Shield. Which would be the best candidate.

Secondly, I think I saw a 9mm, 3rd Gen, single stack with an Air Lite / Air Weight (Scandium?) Frame once also marked with a PD. Is that possible? Performance Center? I have scoured and can't find anything other than a 4040PD example.

Any direction / clarification is greatly appreciated. Look forward to being a part of the community.

I'm just the opposite, I replaced the 3913/14 with a Shield9 for EDC. Shields are easily replaced, the 3913/14 are not so they now just see range service..

The single stack you are referring to is probably the 4040PD. Scandium alloy frame, shape of frame is almost identical to the 3913/14 Lady Smith or NL. I don't recall any 9mm with Scandium (advertised) frame.

Either the CS9 or the 3913/3914 series are a step up from the shield. In trigger alone. Not to mention reliability, construction and looks.

In fact, I have found the Ruger LC9s to be superior to the shield as well. If you like striker fired plastic guns that is.

Me? Make mine a 3914NL. Great trigger, 100% reliable, accurate and looks good doing all that too. Good luck with your decision! Regards 18DAI

Jlyrgr welcome to the forum, to get to your question about a scandium 9MM I wonder if you are thinking of a S&W 369 revolver it is 9mm and scandium frame? As to the question of a replacement for the shield I believe the CS9 is a great hard to beat ccw gun.

Another one to consider is the 908. It is the "value line" of the 3913 and 3914.

I actually traded a LC9 for my Shield. The LC9 was the earlier version with a hammer and not the new LC9s.

In reality my favorite carry pistol is the 3913 standard and most accurate of all of my 3913/14, my #2 would have to be my non-rail 3913TSW.

The OP has it right. According to the 3rd Gen list provided by Skjos, the 4040 is the only 3rd Gen with a scandium frame. In a way, I wish I'd never learned that...oh well, another one for the Grail Gun list!

3910PD has a nice ring to it. Or maybe 3950PD. Two for the wish list.
