Didn't want to hijack the 457 thread today, but just noticed something I hadn't before.
The two-toned model 457 -- the one produced in 1997 (the year after the matte blued 457 came out originally) for Zander Sports, according to the SCSW -- is described as having a carbon steel slide (which is matte blued) and a satin
stainless frame, not an aluminum-alloy frame like the original 457 that was the only other one in production in 1997. (The 457S, with stainless slide and satin aluminum-alloy frame didn't come out until 2003.)
The SCSW also says the two-toned model 457 is worth twice as much as the others; however, the market doesn't seem to have borne this out.
But if the frame is stainless (maybe by using a 4516 frame?), then I can see the value of the two-toned being more, at least in theory.
So, owners of the two-toned 457, do you know if the frame on your pistol is actually stainless, and not alloy aluminum? (If it's stainless, your pistol without the mag inserted should weigh around 35 ounces; if it's alloy aluminum, it should weigh around 27 ounces.)
I'd never put two and two together on these until noticing the description more closely in the SCSW today, so now I'm wondering if the two-toned 457 is "the poor man's 4516". (Well, aside from the fact the slide is carbon steel and not stainless, that is.)
