I was cleaning guns the other day. First my fav {a M41}-then onto my other pistols. High Standard 102 Supermatic {hammer}and then a High Standard Duramatic {striker}. My curiosity got the best of me, so I started reading about striker and hammer fired. I found several google references to the M41 being a striker fired. Having a basic understanding of the 41 functions, I questioned this, as the M41 has a hammer. I searched the SW website for this topic but had no luck. Could anyone chime in on this? Civil could you and Tom help me out. Thanks.

The Mod 41 has a hammer concealed by the slide.

Which to me means a hammer fired. However, some posts on other websites call the m41 a striker. I believe now, after about 10 personal emails in the last 10 minutes, that the m41 is hammer fired. The HS duramatic has no hammer.

There is plenty of misinformation on the internet. The Model 41 has a concealed hammer and firing pin. It is not striker fired.

Famous knifemaker Bob Loveless did a Model 41 chop job where he exposed the hammer and fashioned a thumbpiece to it. He also ventilated the slide.

A quick Google search will yield pix of the project.

He did and those guns command a premium today. One correction, he ventilated the barrel rib, not the slide.
