Default CS45 w Big Dog grip owners, please step inside!

What is the recoil like with the Big Dog grips installed? Is the CS45 as controllable as it is with the factory Hogue grips?

Any difference in reliability or accuracy between the early production black/blue CS45 and the later stainless models?

Last question, how rust resistant is that blue black CS45? I am currently fighting a weekly battle with rust on a blue 3914 NL. Never had any issues with the stainless 3913's. So I'm wondering how the blue CS45 holds up.

Thanks for your time and the info! Regards 18DAI

Do not know on the 45, but with the 40 I could not tell much at all..To me the 40 has a much sharper bite than a 45..IMHO. Had em on both my CS40's.

Hey 18DAI I think we may be sharing brainwaves my friend. I do not know anything about Big Dog grips but will be googling it in a sec or two. I just picked up a CS 45 from the LGS today for cheap. The rub is it has 2 small rust spots ( i.e. surface pitting ) on the left hand part of the slide. From what the proprietor explained to me these are rust prone and need to be wiped down often with Hoppes #9 or oil. I will likely be sending mine to the mothership to have it repaired and the gold CS logo reprinted. While I am at it, do you know any place to get mags for these things?

I have a blue CS45 and a 3914 also in blue. I have never had a problem with any rust. I keep them lubed with Kleen Bore Gun Conditioner or Hoppes Elite. Of course there is not much humidity here. When I'm on the road I use one of those silicone wiping cloths. Good luck

I'm with Peakes . I've used the CS40 with Big Dog grips for all day high round count seminars like moving targets/moving shooter without any discomfort. My Big Dog's are the extended version which keeps the rear base of the grip from inflicting harm on the bottom of your hand.

Sonnyjames I have been thinking of sending my 3914 off for a refinish too. Karl Sokol though, NOT s&w.

I had been thinking about a stainless CS45. But I have an opportunity to buy a black one. LOts of heat and humidity here in NC. Especially in the summer.

I purchased a 457 last year and after two months of IWB carry had rust on the slide. Came off and with the application of some Kiwi shoecpolish has not returned.

I appreciate everyones responses concerning recoil. I know recoil is subjective and percieved differently from one to another.

Bruce that two tone CS 40 is a beauty. Maybe I need to consider a 40 as well!

Pleaseckeep the discussion going. I don't know a lot about the CS guns and I am learning from you fine gents. Regards 18DAI

I have had good luck locating the Whole CS series Mags on ebay. Since they are under 10rds, you can usually locate them without too much trouble.

My Wife loves her CS9 without the Big Dogs on it. She likes the feel of the rubber factory Grip. Funny to is shooting her 9 and my 40 at the same session I can not find a lot of recoil difference between the two.

I didn't perceive any difference in recoil with the CS45 with big dog grips. I also sent you a pm.

I have carried a CS45 with standard grips, since I retired and it has shown no signs of rust. I take very good care of it, and it is the perfect CC weapon.

Default CS45

Here's my $.02 on CS 45 mods: I have two stainless models One has night sights with Big Dog grips. Mags are easy to find. You can resource LGOutdoors on GunBroker. They have the stock mags although a bit pricey. Most S&W single stack .45 mags will fit although they extend beyond the magwell. I keep a pair of these on my driver's side visor for backups. They're available for reasonable money from MidWayUSA. Optics Planet / Dvor. They will occasionally run a sale on night sights. You can get good quality ones for under $100. Big Dog grips are the way to go to reduce the "bulk" of the grip. Lastly, you need not torture yourself looking for a perfect "out of the box fit" holster. High Noon will make a pistol specific holster for all CS models. You even to get to select from IWB & OWB styles. Only one performance note and I think it was specific to this one pistol. I was experiencing multiple "stovepiping "issues. A new extractor was fitted, still stovepiping. It was sent back to Springfield. They listed the repair as "barrel work". Repair charge $ 0.00 . Now, it eats, feeds, and ejects anything flawlessly from Critical Defense to cheap, steel cased, import ammo.
Best of luck on your CS Models.
