Default 4053TSW

Hello All,

I recently picked up my first DAO 3rd gen, a 4053TSW pre rail with 1 9 round mag and 1 11 round mag with the Shorty Forty base. So far I love the feel of the grip and the trigger reach. I hope to get to the range with it in a few days but I have a couple questions for the experts before firing it.

The rear of the slide sits a little forward on the frame. The slide looks to be a little less than a 1/16" forward on the frame.

Is this normal on the DAO 3rd gens?

Is this just a cosmetic issue and it is safe to fire like this?

What would cause this and how can I remedy the problem?

I have field stripped it and reassembled and everything seems to be in order but I'm no expert by any means. Everything appears to function as it should.

The action locks up good and there is no gap between the barrel hood and slide. Any thoughts, ideas, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think I remember this being discussed before and most thought it was a cosmetic issue. Shoot it and see how it runs. You'll probably be happy with it.

Thanks for the replys guys. I'll be taking it to the gun range Tuesday to see how it shoots.

Anyone know where to get recoil springs for this model? It has the dual recoil spring set-up like my 4513TSW has.

If S&W doesn't have them my first call would be Wolfe Springs.

I did some checking. The inner spring part number is 108670000. The outer is 108670000. Midway has the inner, but not the outer. Brownell's has both, but at twice the price of Midway. I would check with Wolfe. Also, a Forum member started selling them...I don't remember the name of his business. Hopefully Vigil617 will be along soon & he can tell you more about that option.

Timn8er and Shorty, thank you guys for the input.

I've checked on wolff springs but they don't have any for the dual recoil spring models. I also did some more searching and found that the same springs I ordered from sprinco for my 4513TSW will also work for the 4053/4013TSW models that use the dual recoil springs.

With the slide sitting forward on the frame like that, I'm wondering if the tolerances may be stacked and that's what's causing it to sit like that. It doesn't appear to have been fired a lot judging by the amount of wear internally.

Thanks again everyone

I'll take a look at my 4053TSW when I get home this evening to see if it sits different.
Let us know how you like after you get it out to the range. I really like mine. It's a very accurate gun and I haven't had one issue with it what so ever. I've put a few hundred rounds through it so far.

My 4013 doesn't sit like such. As do others, one would first suspect the recoil guide spring/s.

My thanks to Ghost Soldier for turning me onto Sprinco for the dual springs.

Mine sits ever so slightly forward but no where near as much as yours looks in the pic. I can just catch it with my thumbnail.

I finally made to the range with my 4053TSW. I do think I need to get some new magazine springs. I had 4 FTFeeds out of 100 rounds. All were on the last round. Other than that everything worked great, just like my other 3rd gens. It was pretty accurate at 7 yards. The DAO trigger is great. It kinda reminded me of the LEM trigger on the H&K P2000sk I used to have except without the short reset.

I think I'll have to hunt down a 3953 next
