Default 422 OPTICS

I need to buy an inexpensive red/green dot laser scope for my 422 but can not find what type of mount is required. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Bo, have you tried using the search for that info? You only have a couple of options and I can't remember the names of them at the moment. One option replaces one of the grips and comes up and over the frame to hold the optic. The other, and I think would be my choice, would be the one that clamps onto the trigger guard under the frame. The only other option I know of is to drill and tap. The 2206 tgt is drilled and tapped from the factory and would give you a guide. Then a mounting plate is attached to those holes. Last I looked the plates can be found.
One word of caution. Remember that removing the slide requires enough clearance to remove the guide rod plug. I would not be happy if I had to remove the optics every time I cleaned it, which for me, is every trip to the range. If you can't find the names of those two mounting systems, I'll dig them up. CRS won't let me bring it out of the memory banks.

Not being able to remember this bugged me enough to look it up. Thanks. lol
Here's your two options I know of; aimtech and B-square.

Aimtech Black Mount For Smith & Wesson 422/622/2206 APM11 FREE S&H APM11. Aimtech Riflescope Mounts, Rings & Bases.

It may take some patience and perseverance to find a B-square. I don't think they've been made for a while, but they come up every so often. Good Luck

Default 422 Optic

Thanks SLIDEMUZIK
I did see this mount while trying to find an optic for my 422.
I was hoping something like a Weaver mount would fit it but as yet do not know. Surprisingly a picatinny will fit on my 22A1

As slide noted, there are (3) mounts. Here is a pic of the rail mount on my 2206. It does cause issues in stripping the slide, and for that reason is a PITA for me, but it is the most functional of the mounts, IMO.

A good 'smith could drill and tap your 422, there is a lot of meat on the muzzle and shouldn't be an issue. These mounts are around $10 on EBAY, I estimate a 'smith would charge $25-$35 to drill and tap. So price wise you are in line with the grip/trigger guard mounts.

Shoot what do you use to release the pressure on the recoil spring? It looks like there's enough room once the slide is pulled back and the tool inserted, that the plug would clear the end of the mounting plate.

I don't have the Smith tool, but my son did 3d print a copy of one for me. He didn't have the measurements so just kind of did it by sight, and the size of a spent .22 case. It's just a bit short for the 2206 with the rail on it, he is going to make a modified version for the 2206. If you have the S+W version I'd love to know the overall length, and length of the "handle".

I'm currently using an allen wrench, which can be a little precarious when the guide rod slips off of it...

Summ, I don't have one handy at the moment. I'll try to remember to get one out and measure it if you need it, but it's a whole lot easier to call S&W customer service and ask for one. They sent me a couple free of charge. They have a slight divot on the ends to hold the recoil rod more securely. The plastic won't mar the surface of the pistol like metal does either.

B-Square used to make a mount for the 422. I used it and a Tacso 2X IR to squirrel hunt with about 20 years ago.
