Has anyone seen the 4040PD sitting there on GB. I can't believe it hasn't had more bids. Does anyone know how many of these were made? I understand S&W lost money on them.

Always wondered myself how many were made. Nobody seems to know. I picked one up here through the classifieds recently and have had trouble finding out much about them. I did call S&W and found out mine was made in 2003, but that was all they could tell me. They are great little pistols though. Curious where it will end up.

I suspect you'll see more bids as the auction nears it's termination date. It could be very attractive for an affluent buyer in a magazine limit state.

I doubt S&W lost any money on these, but rather found they couldn't justify the weak demand due to price they set.
