Looks like you got one like mine, left side slide lock and safety levers melted a bit for carry. Nice. Congratulations.

Can any of you fellows who know this 3rd generation model (and others like the 5906, etc.) answer a question for me?
Are these ok to dry fire without snap caps? I don't mean just once or twice, but repeatedly as a practice exercise.
I understand it's a controversial topic but I can't seem to locate an official S&W directive on this for their 3rd gen types.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I had to "settle" for a 3914LS to get that result. I'm comfortable enough in my manhood to have you guys tease me!

Depends onow much you dry fire.....

If you pull the trigger 1000x a night in front of the TV, you'll want snap caps.

If you pull it a dozen times once a month, don't bother.

The snap cap just gives the firin pin something to transfer it's energy into. never a worse idea than having it support the entire potential energy of the hammer falling, when it was only designed to do so into a primer....

Snap caps are cheap. $25 or so for a half dozen. Pick them up. You can also use them for ball and dummy drills or for failures drills.

Did you buy that from a shop on the Cape? I'm just curious as there is a shop a bit north of Boston that has one listed.

I haven't scored a 3rd Gen in over 3 months now. Looks like I now know who to blame!

Just kidding! I still say CONGRATULATIONS!

That one up north isn't even half as nice as Tim's. High price tag is due to 4 magazines, not due to condition. If I didn't have one already, I'd probably have to consider it but I didn't even bother to have them take it out of the case. I'm still focused on the pristine Model 4006 they've got there, but I feel the price is still too high for a .40.
