Even though DAO pistols are strange,I like my 5946,a 15 +1 revolver.

I really like my 5945. 15 shot revolver is about right. I find it easy to shoot accurately at typical "combat" distances. The short DAO trigger throw is a big help in that regard. Mine was supposedly built for the NYPD and is solid as a rock. The DAO trigger makes shooting (at least for me) tougher at distance (25 yards and out) but at "combat distances" it poses no real difficulties. They are good guns, I think you will like it.

My daughter uses Winchester 115 grain Silvertips (standard pressure) in her 9mm. They are accurate and feed well. YMMV.

I recommend Speer Gold Dot 124 Grain +P 9mm for defensive ammo in a Smith and Wesson 5946. The all steel pistol will have no problems with it.

I shoot limited amounts of this out of my aluminum frame Beretta M9. I carry the short barrel version of this load in the S&W 6946, 3913, 3953 and 940.

If you are still concerned about the +P load in your pistol, just purchase the standard velocity Speer 124 Grain Gold Dot.

Many law enforcement agencies use the Speer Gold Dots in 9mm, .38 Special, .357 Sig, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. The Gold Dot has a good record on the street of making people stop what they are doing.........

I love my Memphis police marked 5946. I shot a tactical match with 2 moving targets with it and placed 2nd out of 50 shooters. The funny thing was most everyone there was coming up to the table where the pistols laid and loving on my 20 year old smith in comparison to all the Glocks ,FN s Berettas, Taurus and Rugers. Its absolutely perfect for combat/defensive shooting out to 25 yards. Pinpoint type accuracy is a bit more difficult with it as I could seem to be able to hit a 1/4 inch rod at 25 yards to save my life thou I did nick it a time or to. Its my mistake that I didn't bring my 4006 to shoot that type of match .

In most 9x19 pistols, I have had very good luck with standard-pressure 124-grain JHP from Federal, Remington, Hornady, or Speer. I find the 124-grain loads to enable smaller groups that the 115-grain offerings.

I try to avoid +P ammo as I will move to a 9x23 Winchester if I want faster offerings. The standard Winchester load moves a 124/125-grain slug at 1450 fps, which obliterates 9x19 +P performance.
