Default The S&W that everyone forgot?

Today I looked at a "new" 22s in 7" in a
Large Box outdoor and gun shop. priced very reasonable. (mid 200's). This was new to me and 30 minutes of "google" produces almost nothing and I can not find in threads here on the forum.
Do I need to go purchase this gun that shows in the S& W on line catalog but has no additional information? It's a S&W and looks great for the price, what's the real story behind these guns?

Not much information to go on here as to what you are referring to.

I'm guessing that in the 22a he mentioned, it's supposed to be a 22 "S".That would make it more familiar to most of us.

There have been quite a few of these for sale online NIB in the price range you mentioned. They work well and are accurate shooters; I had one when they were a new model in the mid-1990s but sold it. Hope this is helpful.

I went under the search, stopped at the google search (1st one) and typed in 22a. Lots of posts there.
Here's the link to one of the searches-

The OP must be speaking of the 22A. OP we need more information. And, by the way, just because it says Smith and Wesson and it sells for 250.00 does not mean its a great deal. You are in the right place to research Smith and Wesson. You must mean the 22A a .22 pistol that had a very short life. Many were returned due to malfunctions. They were pulled off the market. Others will correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, it's a 22a but was labeled 22s because it's stainless steel. I think all that is on the gun is "22s". It's actually in the used gun section of a Cabelas gun library, so no box (I think). I had never heard of this gun and thought google would yield loads of information along with our forum. I am finding very little on the web about performance and accuracy for these guns

Hopefully Vigil617 will be along soon; he's done more than a little research on S&W 22's.

I like how easily the 22A and 22S disassemble for cleaning. Nice guns.

Thanks to those of you who posted. I was away from home yesterday at the new "for card members only" opening of the Cabelas south of Chattanooga. Spent a lot of time in the Gun Library looking at the eye candy that almost all had hefty price tags and then, there in the S & W stuff is this " 22S" pistol for $ 250, by a 41 they wanted something over a thousand dollars for me to carry home. Quick google of a " 22S" and a quick check here produced almost nothing on the smart phone. Just was wanting to determine if I need to "pull the trigger: on this one. I chose not to as the crazy laws says it would cost me an extra $ 50 in transfer fees because I am not a resident of Georgia. I can buy the long guns in adjoining states, but heaven forbid a pistol purchase out of state. Never mind the fact the background check goes to the same place. O, well, thanks. Back home and some other guy can purchase what looked like a great 7" barrel autoloading S & W for $ 250. The buckmarks were around $ 380 and forgot price on the Mk III Rugers but they too were in the 400 range. The 22S looked well made for the money, but I to did not like that large "round" grip. If it would have had a small grip, it would be on its way to Alabama. Learned a little more about the different pistols made over the years. I have to wonder why they appear to have stopped producing this pistol as it appears to fit into the plinking market in price range and esthetics. Thanks again, This is the place for S & W info.
