Unhappy Broken Walther PPK Thumb safety

Had not fondled my S&W Walther PPK recently so I broke it out of the box last night to hold, try racking the slide, basically enjoying my 2nd Amendment petting zoo.

By the end of watching the latest episode of Game of Thrones I noticed the thumb safety lever seemed a little sharp. WTH?

Closer examination showed the lever had broken in half. I hadn't dropped it, banged it on anything, just been working the slide, feeling the trigger pull, inserting and removing the magazine. But it seemed to have just broken in half and fallen off.

Anyone else have this problem happen to their PPK ?

Welcome and sorry . I think it is unusual for this part to break; I'd call factory customer service and see what can be done. S & W and Walther are no longer in business together, so if there was a warranty Walther USA may honor it or it may not be in force any more.

Default Hope its unusual

I've emailed Walther & looked up the part on Firearm Parts & Accessories | Military Surplus | Numrich Gun Parts. They're all sold out of the thumb safety, both old and new models. Hope it's not a harbinger of an inherent problem.

I did see on one of these boards someone had the exact same problem in 2011 or so.

Thanks for the reply. Will wait to see what Walther says...

I got my PPK about 1992 or 3 used so no idea what kind of care it was given before then. In about 2000 I went to go to work and the safety fell out. It had cracked in the middle over the fireing pin. I got mine from Numich and looked up on the net to see how to replace it. I've had no problem with the safety since then. It was an Interarms PPK.

Just got off the phone with Walther (they ignored my previous email to customer service). $40 shipped for a new thumb safety in stainless steel. Should be here in about a week. Problem will be solved then.
