Default 22A-1 hammer spring question

I am a new owner of a 22A-1 which I plan to use in low-level club competition. I have taken care of most of the trigger pull issues, but the hammer spring load is a killer. I have 1911's with softer hammer springs. Is the factory force level absolutely necessary, or can the spring be cut/replaced with a lighter weight spring. Coincidently, this would also lessen the slide racking force, which may obviate the need to build or buy a slide racker.

Any help will be appreciated.

John
