Nice inheritance. Sorry for your loss. Do a search in the forum. Lots of info. One of a series that includes 622, 2206, 2214. Good shooter. Very accurate. Without the original box, it limits value. Check gunbroker for current going prices. With the wood grips and adjustable sights, around $300-?
Be careful with the finish and don't dry fire.
Hope that helps.

I just realized I forgot to post the photo that shows this as a 422. Anything you can tell me about the year? What it might be worth? Are there other ways to check that its all original?
Thanks!

By posting a pic of it here we will tell you roughly the value of this gun. Some of them sell with the wood grips for around $400.00 here in Canada. I believe in the US they sell for less but they are a great target pistol to shoot for the money, need to know if anything else goes with it also?

What slidemuzik meant about searching the forum was to search this forum (The Smith & Wesson Forum, smith-wessonforum.com), and it's easy to search by clicking the word "search" on the upper right side of the page.
If you type "model 422" in the box (including the quotation marks), you'll likely get a bunch of results. Happy exploring!
By the way, the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson lists the 422 with the 6" barrel and adjustable sights like yours as having been produced from 1987 to 1996. The values that others have provided are pretty accurate, especially since you don't have the original box and there is only one magazine with it.
Since you're not familiar with guns, what slidemuzik said about not "dry firing" it is important and bears repeating. "Dry firing" is cocking the pistol and pulling the trigger without a cartridge in the gun. You should never do that with a .22LR pistol -- a so-called "rimfire" pistol -- because it's not good for the firing pin, which can break if you do it enough. Your manual will tell you all about this.
I hope the pistol you have inherited has been checked to determine if it is loaded. If you don't know how, READ THE MANUAL FIRST OR GET SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO CHECK IT FOR YOU. Don't pull the trigger to check!!!!!!

Adjustable sights, wood grips, nice clean gun... I'd value it in the $375-425 range even without the box. Like others said, careful with the finish as that black will quickly wear at the sharp edges with sustained usage. That said, even finish worn this gun would be worth $300 - so if "kid gloves" aren't your thing and you're looking to put a bunch of rounds down range then have at it.
On a side note I was quite shocked to see how much just the wood grips were selling for recently on the auctions. Though I'm not a fan of pretty much all S&W factory wood grips, I especially dislike the look of the 422 wood grips. Pretty sure I'm in the minority there, but so be it. Might have to list the set I have sitting in a drawer. Anyways, great little guns - all of mine shoot pretty much anything you put in them. And best yet, use the same mags as the Model 41.

Welcome! Agree with the comments above. It appears all original; there was little to change on this gun aside from the stock panels.
Be sure the read the manual thoroughly, especially the safety rules. If you're interested in shooting it, find a local pistol range and ask about taking either a hunter's safety or basic pistol class beforehand. One last comment specific to this model - in photo 4 above you'll notice a screw holding the rear sight leaf onto the top the gun. This works loose easily, so be sure to tighten it with a proper screwdriver or you may lose the sight.
