Default Model 41 with 7" barrel and muzzle brake

Again I was lucky to find a near mint S&W model 41 pistol. This is the version with 7" barrel and muzzle brake. For me this is especially important because the barrel lenght and the muzzle brake were not allowed for any competition shooting here in Germany. As the gun has no German proof marks I guess someone brought it to Germany from the United States. The gun is in great condtion hand has hardly seen any usage apart from firing a few shots just for fun. What I especially love is the wonderful checkering on the barrel rib and even at the rear of the gun. I know this only from the model 27 revolver. My other 41 and 46 do not have this nice feature. I don't know if this was standard or not. S/N is 78285 as you can see on the pictures. The gun has on small flaw close to the front of the barrel where you can see something like a tiny little scratch appr. 4mm long. Otherwise perfect. I now have to find the 41 in .22short and the version with extendably front sight. Very hard to find in Germany. Especially the version with the extendable front sight was not allowed in our country. As already mentioned earlier, everyone had a High Standard, a FN Browning or a model 17 revolver. People who could not afford to buy one of these releatively expensive guns bought an Arminius revolver instead - a gun which did a good job. If anybody has more information regarding the checkering I would appreciate to learn more about this. I hope you like the pictures.

The checkering is standard on this model as my older one has it also. Nice pics you have taken also as thats a good looking pistol for sure. Hope you have many good years shooting it as well.

You have a very nice pistol there, I have a slightly newer version of the same pistol and it has the same checkering. It is now my favorite pistol to shoot.

Very nice addition to your collection. The checkering was not on the Model 46 to reduce costs. I can only guess your other 41 has a 7" barrel. If its 7 3/8 please post a picture.

I did see a Model 41-1 for sale on a German website maybe 2 years ago so there is at least one to look for. Good luck with your search.

Default 41 with muzzle brake

Helo Aussie Collector,

thanks for your nice comment. I measured the barel and it is exactly 18cm which equals 7,0866". So I guess it's a 7" barrel - right?

Default barrel

You need to remove the muzzle break, and see the rest of the barrel, 3/8 inch, that locates that muzzle break. The screw of course secures it.
Great looking pistol. Enjoy.

G'day,

Yes 7", I figured it was a 7" from your description.

Once you get right into the Model 41 there is so many variations, changes and combinations to collect. The more you look the more you will find. I guess all models are similar once you look deep enough.
Cheers.
