Model 539 Find
I've been on a casual hunt for a quality 9mm pistol for some time, not for use as a protection/defensive carry gun but rather an accurate enjoyable one for relaxed pleasurable shooting and I think I found the pistol that fits the bill. This Model 539 showed up listed for sale on a local forum last week, in very good shape with box and 3 mags, for $475. After a quick look at GunBroker to see comparable examples selling for $700-$800, I jumped on it. I think it will prove to be a good buy.

That looks like a very nice 9, db. I really hope it is a good buy for you and there are no untold issues with the gun.

With the rounded trigger guard, that's an early one. It is really gorgeous. It's almost like having a STEEL frame Model 39 without the cost and fragile extractor.
Great buy.

Great find db, the only 539 I have seen in person belongs to a buddy of mine. It feels like your shooting a 22, the all steel gun eats all the recoil up. Also his 539 is one of the most accurate 9 mm's I've ever shot. Best of luck and be sure to post a range report.

I was looking for an inexpensive 539 for a couple years, luckily having a 639 and a couple 39's I was able to be patient. I did find 2 well used (80-85%) shooter grade for $425/450, and a good 95% for $750. Finally last year I found one for $525 Lnib.... And since it's so nice, I still haven't shot it. As has been said, the all steel guns are very enjoyable for extended shooting sessions. 4 boxes of ammo, and you'll feel like you're just getting started.

Very good condition. You did well. Love mine but it has a lot of finish wear from its working career but still shoots very well. They were only made for less than a year.
All the 539`s and 559`s had the rounded trigger guards. Square guards were introduced in the 3rd generation and with some stainless transitional 2nd gen stainless pistols.
Enjoy
Jim

Wow, very nice... no strike that, it's freaking nice. That falls into the "grail gun" category, according to the Standard Catalog of S&W 3rd Edition, only 8,159 produced over a 3 year run.
I'd sell off body parts to pay for it if something like that came within striking distance.

Naw, you've been screwed and not even kissed first. Complete junk. I feel really sorry for you. Tell ya what: send that piece of junk to me and I'll reimburse what you paid. That will be a cheap lesson for you. Just trying to help.

The 539 is desirable pistol, and as pointed out a limited run. I managed to pick up a nickle 439 and its one of my favorite 9's.
