Default 3906 BARREL QUESTIONS

Curious about two things I noticed while cleaning the 3906 purchased yesterday. One, there is a letter S on the bottom of the barrel. The S looks to have been done freehand below the stamped P (factory marking?). Just wondering what the S means.

Two, the bottom of the barrel 'ring' has been shaved off for lack of a better explanation. Wondering if that is factory machining to reduce weight..........this was not done on the barrel of my 4006.

Hope the photos will show what I have tried to say verbally.

Thanks for your help.

I don't have a 3906, but I took one of my 3913s apart and it has the identical marking and barrel lug is the same as yours.
